apart from Dunkirk and It, what exactly is so 'cracking' about WB's year so far?

Wonder Woman did mediocre numbers. Lego Batman did fine but nothing remarkable. Kong was weak. King Arthur was a bomb.

How was Kong weak? It got pretty close to Godzilla in the end, I'd call that very good.

Kong did well considering it opened a week before the juggernaut that was Beauty and the Beast and a week after Logan.

I think this Autumn has a very strong slate of film and IT kicked off the season with the bang. Kingsman should do solidly, Blade Runner and Thor will do great business in October with decent hits from Ninjago and maybe The Snowman. November looks very stong with Murder on the Orient Express, Paddington 2 and Justice League.

It is at £14m, smashing year for WB, yearly crown not out of the question.

American Made had a poor opening but WoM is great and producing solid holds.

Dunkirk is having the box office run of the decade. Still in the top 3, soon topping Casino Royale and £1m to go to pass TDKR.

Will be interesting what mother! does, a thought-provoking art film that is getting wide release. Expecting furious walk-outs 😊

Don't think WB will hit the yearly crown, Disney have Thor and Star Wars at the end of year.

mother! I think will have a decent OW but poor legs, it looks like it'll split opinion. Victoria and Abdul should do well, not sure on American Assassin, the 18 rating might be a hindrance.

Yea, It is killing it. Vic will have a nice run to reach £10m but we've seen similar films in this release slot do much better.

mother! is doing ok indie numbers really, doing well in art-house cinemas, they shouldn't have gone wide with it, now it looks bad.

Victoria and Abdul will likely do well

during the week with the older audience

I don't understand mother!'s strategy. Reviews are good and it's selling out in Curzon, Everyman, etc. So why put it into multiplexes where it's gonna play in empty screens and the audience clearly not cut for film like this and more likely to go on social media.

I imagine that it could be a mix of:

) Not much chance than the word of mouth from those specialty theater could attract the GA much,

) Betting on the small chance that a really strong reaction on social media could create some curiosity among some people.

) Announced to be wide before the festivals and betted on some better festival reception ? That movie was not much seen when those decision were taken maybe.

Given the extensive ad campaign and the big names in it, mother! was never going to get a limited release.

£6.2m for IT according to Ian Sandwell, great drop, only Bridget Jones had a bigger second weekend and that was only slightly higher.

Victoria and Abdul did £1.9m which is decent, I imagine this will play very well during the week. Kingsman next week will likely dethrone IT although I'm not sure how it'll do. £6-7m five days is my guess but it could do more.
