Heretic

UK Box Office Thread

WB aren't allowing them because they think the american audience will be spoiled...It's quite pathetic. But, Australia get it a day before America...and they still have midnights. Doesn't really make sense, but there you have it.

Very strange there are no midnight Dark Knight Rises screenings in the UK, they would sell very well!Should be seeing TASM tonight as well, will be packed with Orange Wednesday hopefully.

WB decided that we can't have midnights in case we spoil it for the US, hence the 5am shows that have been popping up.Edit: Damn you heretic, you beat me to it ;) Edited by Schumacher FTW

Thanks guys!Still does not make any sense as people have to look up spoilers and they can ignore them too which is easy and as you said Australia can 'spoil' too so it seems really daft what WB are doing....

Saw TASM last night at Vue Westfield (one of the biggest in the UK) and it was packed with people seeing it as well and Orange Wednesday helped too!£10m opening is a lock at this point I think.

Has anyone noticed that this list of the top films of all time in the UK on wikipedia is actually inaccurate? It says it's based on tickets sold, so I'm guessing they calculated the box office from the average ticket price the year the movies came out, but their math must have been off. BFI has a statistical yearbook you can download that has box office figures unadjusted for inflation and the top 20 looks like this:

    [*]Avatar £94m

    [*]Toy Story 3 £73.8m

    [*]Deathly Hallows Part II £73.1m

    [*]Mamma Mia £69.2m

[*]Titanic £69m (not incl. 3D rerelease)

    [*]Philosopher’s Stone £66.1m

    [*]Fellowship of the Ring £63m

    [*]Return of the King £61.1m

    [*]Two Towers £57.6m

    [*]Casino Royale £55.6m

    [*]Chamber of Secrets £54.8m

    [*]Dead Man’s Chest £52.5m

    [*]Deathly Hallows Part I £52.4m

    [*]The Full Monty £52.2m

    [*]The Avengers £51.3m*

    [*]Quantum of Solace £51.2m

[*]The Phantom Menace £51.1m (not including 3D rerelease)

    [*]Half-Blood Prince £50.7m

    [*]Order of the Phoenix £49.9m

    [*]Goblet of Fire £49.2m

*-still on release

DMC, OOTP and GOF are around a million higher according to this list and the first Potter is over two million higher!

Other interesting things to note:

Only three films in the top 20 (Avatar, TS3 and Avengers) don't feature British-themed stories/characters or have a large percentage of British talent involved in the production. We may not have much of a UK film industry but we like our Hollywood movies to be aimed at us :)

Only three pre-21st century films on the chart (and Titanic and TPM will keep their spots for a long time thanks to their 3D runs).

This could be the first year ever when four films enter the top 20 all time (provided TDKR, Skyfall and Hobbit all live up to expectations).

4 £50M-ish films in one year?

Should happen.

Could happen for sure, which would be amazing!Though have my doubts on Skyfall reaching £50m as people may be put off still from QoS and Bond not as golden as before. But three £50m films could definitely happen, ever happened before?
