bleachella
After seeing Joker I instanly knew it would have a great wom in Europe, but these numbers are still crazy. Like I know my country is obsessed with Batman mythos and loves this type of movies but the fact it technically increased on the second weekend and could outgross Endgame (?) is kind of hilarious. Interesting to see will it continue dropping softly. 1

reddevil19
Just had a quick look at the ol' home country. Romania's showing a drop of less than 17%. Almost 1.2 million USD. For reference, some of the biggest superhero movies ever, as well as some of this year's biggest: Aquaman ~ 3.9 million Endgame ~ 3.4 million Infinity War ~ 2.6 million Venom ~ 2.5 million Hobbs & Shaw ~ 2.3 million Suicide Squad ~ 2.1 million Thor Ragnarok ~ 2.1 million Black Panther ~ 2 million The Lion King ~ 1.9 million Deadpool 2 ~ 1.8 million Deadpool ~1.8 million Captain Marvel ~ 1.8 million BvS ~ 1.6 million Justice League ~ 1.5 million Far From Home ~ 1.35 million Aladdin ~1.2 million Homecoming ~ 1.05 million Wonder Woman ~ 1.05 million So, unless it completely starts falling off a cliff, should get the 2nd biggest DC gross. It is a bit all over the place, to be fair. It's a market that eats up big spectacle. Avatar is about 6 million, Jumanji 2018 is 2.9 million, TFA is 3.3 million, Fast & Furious 8 is 3.2, Furious 7 is 2.7 million, POTC5 is 2.3 million, TLJ is 2.2 million, Captain Marvel is about 1.8 million (I missed it in the first post). Visual spectacle sells above all else, though even then it's a bit hit and miss. Superheroes and big, flashy IPs, mostly, especially with charismatic, "hot" names in the cast (a la The Rock).
catlover
In Indonesia, Joker had an unusually small drop in its 2nd week. FYI we don't have published FSS numbers here, only weekly numbers, so we can only do drops for the daily gross average in each week. That 39% drop is rare, since most movies have more than 50% drops in their 2nd weeks. Recent examples: TLK - 56.65% FFH - 59.86% IT 2 - 62.05% FF:H&S - 72.40% With this drop, Joker will make more than many superhero movies. And that is surprising because we are obsessed with action and big visual CGI spectacles (that superhero movies usually offer). And here a heavy, dark movie with less actions and more drama will be among the biggest Hollywood movies of all time. It could be as high as #9 if it keeps dropping this small, beating Civil War. But #12 is more likely since Maleficent is coming to take many of its screens. 6 4

Bart Allen
United Kingdom: Opening weekend (OW): £12,555,329 Second weekend (2nd): £9,766,609 (-25%) That's less of a drop than - according to The Telegraph's box office sources - Aladdin, Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame and Shazam at the second week. Someone stated if these drops continue the a £52 million ($70 million) reach in the United Kingdom is possible, which would be the fourth highest box office in the United Kingdom of 2019 - surpassing Captain Marvel and Spider-Man Far From Home. Italy: OW: €6,165,366 2nd: €6,047,349 (-2% though some said -4.5%) A total of €15,511,395, thus far, which is the third largest grossing film of 2019 in Italy, exceeded only by The Lion King (€37 million) and Avengers: Endgame (€30 million). Romania: OW: $488,131 2nd: $408,084 (-17%) Spain: OW: €4,461,390 2nd: It dropped 2% according to official numbers. The third largest opening weekend of 2019 in Spain, after Endgame and Lion King South Korea: "Warner Bros.’ “Joker” remained on top of the South Korean box office in its second weekend. The American psychological thriller earned $5.71 million from 768,000 admissions between Friday and Sunday, for a total of $28.3 million from 3.85 million admissions after two weekends. It accounted for 46% of total weekend box office in the country." FYI: Joker surpassed Hobbs And Shaw's gross at the box office over there. India: It's has grossed around $8.5 million till now in India; despite less theatres (450 screens) and big competition with War and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. At the second weekend it only suffered a -7% drop. Joker has now surpassed Black Panther and has equalled Batman v Superman in India. United States (Tuesday update): Joker earned another $7 million on Tuesday, down 50% from its previous $13.9 million Tuesday gross and down 16% from yesterday’s (Columbus Day-inflated) Monday gross. That's a great hold when you think of the fact most films drop like that from 1st Tuesday to 2nd Tuesday, as how Endgame dropped 62%, Ragnarok dropped 58.5%, Captain Marvel dropped 48.1%, Deadpool 2 56.9%, and Deadpool 55.4% - especially when you consider it's coming off from a holiday (Columbus Day) and that it's R-rated. According to Forbes, Joker will be passing $600 million worldwide sometime today - surpassing the grosses of Passion of the Christ and Logan by Thursday or Friday; and could pass $700 million over the weekend.
