The result is above the original’s 2014 opening of $109M in like-for-like markets and at today’s rates — just a roughly 7% bump... As we noted in our global preview, the first Maleficent finaled at $517M abroad, although translated to today that would be about $380M given currency swings in the intervening period. (That movie also had benefited from counter programming agains the soccer World Cup.)
Apollo2xx
I watched it on Friday and thought it was just fine. But apparently it's getting very good word of mouth in Brazil because everyone seems to love it. Will be interesting what it's going to do in the next few weeks.

Into the Legion-Verse
Hmm, should be slim chances at 500M then. Let's see how the next weekend goes.
keysersoze123
Only markets left are Lithuania and Ethiopia. So 350m OS is the target? May be 400m if its legs out in some markets but I dont see how this can be ahead. unless they are talking in local numbers and not $ value. But the article seem to mention the XR.

Godzilla
It's at $228M OS and $293M WW. So maybe $500M? Not bad.
keysersoze123
That is a terrific hold. Should hit 400m OS as the WOM is good. Definitely over 500m WW. I am thinking 525m finish at this point.
ThomasNicole
Great hold, should hit $ 400M OS
Into the Legion-Verse
Already a good number, even before going up with actuals. With soft competition in the coming weeks I agree 400 OS is a realistic target, which is more than Mal 1 did at today's rates iirc.
titanic2187
only 20% of the gross from USA? domestic audience really don't like live action remake.

So EG woulda done like 2.5B OS had it come out in 2014? I don't really get how that works.
Marathon
The USD was very weak until the latter half of 2014 (when it started strengthening) due to a variety of factors, including extremely low interest rates and money printing by the Fed. Since then the Fed hasn't been as aggressive about keeping a lid on the currency (others increased their easing measures as well though).
