The Hunger Games (March 23): Based on Suzanne Collins's incredibly popular young adult book series, The Hunger Games aims to be the next Twilight, albeit with enough violence to have crossover appeal with young men. Distributor Lionsgate Entertainment actually already has sequel Catching Fire on the calendar for Nov. 22, 2013, though if the first entry tanks, the sequel can easily be cancelled. At this point, if The Hunger Games reaches the original Twilight's $192.8 millon it should be considered a massive success.

Did that in its opening week. Simply amazing.

I'd be more than happy with 70M for the weekend.

70s locked unless Friday somehow falls below 20M. 80s what we're looking for now.IF that 24M number sticks, 85M is possible. Edited by spizzer

Will THG be #1 next weekend?

yes, I think the film has transcended and is catching on with the general public in a big way (otherwise it would not have increased on thursday, and would not be estimated to have increased as much as 200% on friday). A sub 40% drop is very likely next wknd. Titanic and AP4 will be hard pressed in their attempt to dethrone the film. Edited by B J

Will THG be #1 next weekend?

Yes, with around 45M. (Probably higher, depending on how this weekend turns out). Sub 40% drop seems likely, as this weekend may be sub 50% Edited by spizzer

Great for Hunger Games!Poor for Wrath, unsurprisingly. WOM on the first film sucked.Mirror Mirror did well, many up until this week assumed this would be one of the biggest bombs of the year. Should do well throughout the next 3 weeks.Roll on Cabin in the Woods :)

If Noctis can manage to be be very happy for THG's performance (despite not liking it as much as some Potter films) every other Potter fan should be too lol

I'm fucking ecstatic! This is mind-blowing for THG.

Hard to make any projections right now with no real solid figure, but anything above 20M basically locks 70M. Anything above 21.5M locks 75M, and anything above 22.5M locks 80M.

agreed, the Saturday will be incredibly strong seeing as friday was already amazing with what is sure to have been relitavely soft matinee business.
