So, we have the front runner for the Oscar. Let's see what Babylon delivers. It's between these two for Oscar glory. In terms of box office, i think this will surprise a lot of people and do close to 100M From the reviews, it seems to be an emotional movie

Half that.

It'll probably do like 70s. Maybe it can hit 80s but 70s with all the buzz and awards rollout seems right. About in line with Spielberg's dramas. And it's a major release, not a speciality, so should perform better than the likes of Lady Bird, Three Billboards, Manchester By the Sea, etc

It's Babylon vs Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Feels like Fabelmans will be 3rd. A crowdpleaser and anointed frontrunner after TIFF, but a bit too insular to broadly win. And the frontrunner never wins anymore

EEAAO a frontrunner? Over a praised Spielberg film that will open in November (best time of the year to open a BP contender)? Over a Spielberg film that is a love letter to Cinema (favourite Oscar genre)? Over the most personal film by Spielberg?
I get EEAAO surprised and is wildly loved, but it's still a genre film. It's on the run to secure a BP nom, maybe even a Best Actress citation. And it can win Screenplay. EEAAO needs to recover from TGM juggernaut impact and the arrival of fresh and already critically respected movies (The Whale, Banshees of Inisherin, Bones and All). Even Elvis stole awards heat during Summer.

A24 also has to campaign for The Whale in December... Maybe too much for them?
