Jlaw is the katy perry of film, such a fad

But I wouldn't go so far. Katy doesnt even have a Grammy while JLaw is an Oscar winner with multiple nominations. And winning a Grammy is easier than an Oscar.

That being said, I agree that she seems over as a movie star. Maybe she can try her hand at prestige TV.

The confirmed budget is $45m....

That's a massive facepalm for me. That's WAY too fucking expensive.

Bad Teacher and Sex Tape cost $20m-$25m

This should cost $30m max. Unbelievable

Bad Teacher's budget was just under $20M, but Sony paid $53M in participations (prob a back-end deal).

Sex Tape had a $45.7m budget, but participations cost less than $3m. Sony spent just under $70m on global marketing and theatrical release costs, the movie made only $126m at the box office and Sony still managed to make $1m in profit after the ancillary market revenue.

NHF costing $45m looks believable

She'll always be in demand. She is an Oscar winner and a box office success in the past she has proven herself. As i said, she's here to stay, there'll always be roles for her. She'll go back to Oscar films

yeah there'll always be roles for her in some netflix or amazon movies, she's giving lindsay lohan comeback vibes. no one takes her seriously as an actress, as i said the early 2010's were a fluke for her. she's certainly nowhere near margot, emma or scarlett.

Saving this for later.

There were briefly reports of a $70m budget so $45m doesn't sound so bad,  lol. Taking into account Covid protocols and inflation and the lower backend potential, something will have to give on a movie like this. There's no pay cut for prestige here: stars do these movies for the payday. Any comedy these days without IP attached starts out on the ropes theatrically, and without famous stars or critical acclaim? DOA.

Movies don't only make money in theaters but PVOD and streaming. Sony sells their first run rights to Netflix, so they must think a theatrical release will add value to this vs selling to some service as a streaming exclusive.

She just tried with Causeaway; her co-star got the Oscar nom instead.

What do you mean she tried? Her perfomance in Causeway was great. Just because she doesn't get nominated for an Oscar for literally every role she plays doesn't mean that she failed. Oscar nominations have a lot to do with perception - literally everyone knows that Jlaw can turn in a good dramatic performance, but the clueless Academy was probably surprised that Brian Tyree Henry can do so as well, so they gave him a (deserved) nomination.

This movie looks pretty bad to me but it will definitely break even with streaming and ancillaries. A budget of 45m is maybe a little bit higher than it could've been in a best case scenario, but it's not outrageous.

Margot Robbie has been in an endless string of bombs. Attaching to the Barbie brand was more of a smart strategic move than a sign of her drawing power.

And she'll keep getting cast in masterpieces like Babylon and OUATIH while jlaw keeps doing movies like this, lol.

The idea that nobody takes Jennifer seriously as an actress is hilarious. She is legit the only actress to get a lead role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in like over a decade and she was cast in that movie before he was. He said one reason he signed on was because he wanted to work with her for a long time. Margot had like one line in Once Upon a Time and little screentime. Jonah Hill was more of a main character than Margot in Wolf of Wall Street. Lily Gladstone is supporting in Killers of the Flower Moon and according to people who watched it isn't even on screen for a whole two hours. Leo basically never works with actresses in leading roles anymore. He went out of his way to work with her and he called her the Meryl Streep of her generation.

Even if you do not like her or completely disagree with that, which is your right, that is a sign that she is extremely well respected. It's not like Leo is hurting for work.

This is surprisingly fresh in the eyes of the critics at 63%. Worth highlighting that top critics score is performing better than overall score.

That does not usually happen, right? I don't know any title that has a higher top critic score than overall score.

Usually not, but even if it does, it is oftenly to those prestigious film, not a raunchy comedy.

'extremely well respected' then where are the great roles for her in the last 5 years?? an a netflix movie means nothing, even jlo can smash there 😭 she got cast in THG which was huge and got a payoled oscar campaign but outside that she isnt seen as an acclaimed actress, there's even a lot of x men memes laughing at her acting skills be for real

Isn't it kind of odd to be so desperately into insulting Jennifer Lawrence, yet mentioning Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansen as if those two were somehow on a roll? The former has been in flop after flop lately, and if it weren't for two movies from 2019 which brought critical acclaim - yet not much at the box office - the latter would basically be reduced to being a side-character in Marvel movies for the last 10 years or so.

Has Jennifer Lawrence been at the peak of her career lately? Most definately not.

Is she a very respected actress who is one of the few female actors of the younger generations who get consideration for being the lead of a movie (not just the female lead)? Yes, most definately

In the real world, there isn't just black and white. You just sound incredibly childish and immature with your attempts of being "witty" at her expense. It really isn't that hard to give her a fair assessment, even if you dislike her. Or at least it shouldn't be for anyone remotely trying to argue in good faith.

It happens constantly with indie films. Asteroid City for example have 74% with 7.2 average (but top critics is at 85% with 8.2 average)

For comedies like this tho is not usual

JLaw is also the first actor or actress born in the 90s to get an Oscar. Ariana Debose just recently became the 2nd with her win for Westside Story. I can understand why people don't like her but she has accomplished a lot. I don't see her career being over either.
