Only 43%? I am surprised. I guess the surprisingly solid openings of both Beast and Dragon Ball soften the blow.

New openers here, even Spidey, look pretty tepid on Friday, and Honk needs an outright miracle, but I think Cinema Day itself is what makes this the most fascinating weekend we've had in a long time. I will be posting an update Saturday morning on how all the newbies and holdovers are shaping up for that day.

Between the two of the “new” releases being RE-releases and cinema day factor, not sure they would provide much value for this week or for future comps. Probably just save the effort and scrap it

Early Don't Worry Darling tracking:

Quote

Currently the opening weekend outlook is in the high teens for Don’t Worry Darling, but there’s a tremendous potential for upside here on this multi-genre romance which also stars Florence Pugh and Chris Pine; it would not be shocking if the pic ascends to a $20M+ start which would be a nice 3-day for what is a dry fall sans any major tentpoles. Key for Warner Bros/New Line’ marketing is continuing to stoke Styles’ fervent fans toward this movie (and we’ve heard many are driving several miles to see early screenings of this hot romance title). Typically young female moviegoers head to the cinema in groups and purchase their tickets day-of.

I have now been informed that The Woman King and See How They Run will both be on sale starting Sep 9 (Run might actually be earlier on 9/2, but unlikely).

This now appears to be true, looking like it’ll be on sale tomorrow.

Another new date: Smile will be on sale 9/7.

Finally a new release worth tracking (though sales will probably be pretty light until 7 days out)

Honk for Jesus had today for today 69 sold tickets.
For tomorrow it had even worse 25 sold tickets.
Comps for Friday: Massive Talent (7.1M OW) had on Thursday for Friday 440 sold tickets,
and Easter Sunday (5.4M OW) had 297 sold tickets.
Father Stu (5.4M OW) had one day later, on Friday for Good Friday, 67 sold tickets.
At least the Saturday looks way better with 154 sold tickets.

But even with good walk-ups on Saturday I don't see it over 2M.

Jaws had today for today 490 sold tickets, up 12% since yesterday.
Comp: E.T. had also on Thursday of its release week 519 sold tickets.
For Friday it had today 474 sold tickets = up 7.5% since yesterday.
Comp: E.T. had on the same day 460 sold tickets.
And for Saturday it has now impressive 889 sold tickets = up 27% since yesterday.
So again a nice Saturday jump. I just don't know what to do with this numbers. I saw that it's released in ca. 1.200 theaters (E.T. got only ca. 400) and I guess the Saturday walk-ups will be good too. So maybe 3M+ OW?

NWH had today for today 242 sold tickets, up 21% since yesterday.
For tomorrow it had today 212 sold tickets, up 15% since yesterday.
For Saturday it had today 750 sold tickets = up very nice 40.5% since yesterday.
Now I'm pretty convinced that moviegoers just changed to Saturday.
Mmh, first of all I thought that the 4-5M from boxofficepro are a bit too optimistic but it's re-released in almost 4k theaters, the jumps till today were quite good, the walk-ups should help too and it's a long weekend...could work.

Variety reported that if Honk for Jesus could open in low-single digits, it would be considered a triumph for Focus Features.

I guess Focus Features know what they are doing.  Afterall, they could make profit on "The Northman"
