A new Shazam showing sold well (so a sizable jump today in AMC count), but stayed pretty stagnant everywhere else.

Very strong Day 2 for this level of film.  Nothing else much to add except to say that I'll be shifting over to t-X on Saturday.

Some general thoughts on next week's openers based on recent data:

Scream VI sales have been a bit sluggish since that opening burst. Based on growth rate, still think Black Adam is the best comp, and as of now would suggest sales increase by ~225% from T-7 to T-0, for $5.5-$6.0M in previews, but being horror there is certainly room for a stronger late kick and higher total

65 looks ... decent given the much later sales start, thinking maybe it gets to $2M+ in previews, but limited data reduces precision. Did a spot check on Tampa market, and nearly as many tickets sold there for Thursday (77) as the Jax/Pho/Ral sample combined. Expecting double digit OW here, but just not clear yet how high the upper bound may be.

Hey @katnisscinnaplex, might be worth adding Lightyear as a comp for 65, certainly not same genre, but also had a similarly short sales window

Champions has been stuck on 2 total tickets in the Jax/Pho/Ral markets for like a week (even selling one but losing another on the same day!). Doesn't look like the Mystery Movie created any WOM bump, and feels destined to be further proof that some content just no longer has theatrical appeal, and becomes streaming filler instead

$40Μ opening maybe? Or is it too optimistic?

Super Mario Bros showtimes are starting to appear at a bunch of theaters and it looks like it won't be doing previews (meaning its first shows are that Wednesday morning/afternoon).

Weird that they're releasing it while kids are in school. Granted there are a lot of adult fans as well but I suspect there will be a lot of people who will wait to go as a family.

They want that big 5-day Easter opening. Honestly if Sonic 2 managed a $70M+ opening last year then this should do $100M+ over the long holiday with ease with more going for it (empty marketplace for kids movies, brand power, voice cast full of names that should make it appealing to non-families).

I read that Chris Pine got $11.5m for Dungeons and Dragons. Take the money and run!

Wonder what the budget is then.

According to this Variety Article its $150m+

https://variety.com/2023/film/news/dungeons-dragons-honor-among-thieves-directors-chris-pine-rege-jean-page-hugh-grant-1235539888/

Goldstein and Daley’s latest film, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” produced by Paramount and eOne, is the biggest test yet of their approach. The $151 million film is based on the 50-year-old role-playing game

Most kids aren't in school that week.  Most publics are out all week, and most Catholics have a half day Wednesday and then are out the following week.  AKA - the week before and after Easter are huge K-12 Spring Break weeks in the US - some are before and some are after, so taking advantage of as many of the school holidays as possible is key for Mario...

My first overnight shift is tonight. So remember, I have to track this stuff earlier. I also had to do one half earlier in the afternoon because I was seeing Creed earlier. Just keep this all in mind for everything.
