IndustriousAngel
what did MI4 open to? Even less but with the publicity from MI4 and now the heavy promotion, I hoped that MI5 might get to 500k. MI4 was a chrismas release, so very strong weekdays and good holds.
IndustriousAngel
Final weekend estimates are online: #1: MI5 - 300k admissions #2: Minions - 175k (-50%) #3: Pixels - 105k (-55%) #4: MMXXL - 70k (-50%) #5: Ant-Man - 45k (-50%) as witnessed by the horrible drops, it's an overall very slow weekend, the opening of MI5 doesn't look too shabby in that context. Problem is, the weather is supposed to stay very sunny, so I don't expect much rebound next weekend. With those numbers, I don't think it can reach MI4's total.

Among holdovers, JW and Ant-Man had comparatively good drops, but the story this weekend was once more "Honig im Kopf" which managed a further increase and is back in the Top10! It's now nr.40 on Germany's all-time list (by admissions); not only did it win 2014 but it might end up with a bigger total than any 2015 release, too - and 2015 was looking MUCH stronger than 2014! Incredible … Next weekend: The weather stays sunny and there are three (3) wide releases released on an unwilling clientele: Fantastic Four (maybe Ant-Man numbers, the horrible reviews swapped over from the US, so everything over 100k is already a small victory), "Trainwreck" (I hope for a positive surprise here, the evening is less hampered by weather - 200k admissions would be nice) and "The Man from UNCLE" (hard to predict; it's different in tone from MI5 but basically the same target demo - 200k seem possible but I'd bet on a lot less - again, 100 - 150k would be ok under the circumstances).

IndustriousAngel
Thanks Industrious. Am thinking 6m viewers could be the ceiling for Minions at the moment in Germany - perhaps falling a bit below 53m euro total? No I don't think 6mil is the ceiling; they're well liked among the target demo and there's no competition anywhere. In 2 weeks "Der kleine Rabe Socke 2" will open but that will hardly make a dent into the Minions' run (the first one had less then 500k admissions total), and afterwards it's Minions-Only time until the middle of October (Hotel Transsylvania 2). I see at least 6,5mil but possibly 7mil total.

I'm thinking along 1,3 to 1,7 mil admissions total ... reviews were very good but it's been out for a while now. btw, UNCLE seem in for a quick death ... absolutely underwhelming numbers, won't make much dent in MI5 Edited August 12, 2015 by IndustriousAngel

Pixar hasn't fared too well here with their last few movies, so anything above 1,5mil should probably be considered a success, though I obviously hope for more. IndustriousAngel
die 3D die! it's nice to see how domestic productions slowly find their audiences - pre2005 the market share was usually <15%, nowadays 25% seem normal and even 30% don't seem that extraordinary anymore. Still far away from the french market but it's definitely getting better!

The Dark Alfred
That is an incredible hold for MI5 considering the new openers targeting its demo regardless their poor quality. WoM must be strong. What's coming out next week? Will it stay ahead of Minions to threepeat? Edited August 16, 2015 by Alfredstellar

WoM must be strong. What's coming out next week? Will it stay ahead of Minions to threepeat? Well, weather is probably the stronger factor than WOM (look at Minions) but yes, it might 3peat because there's nothing opening for the action crowd (nothing big at all, actually)
Giesi
I kinda hope IO bombs here in Germany, so Disney abandons the plan to release all summer Pixar movies in fall. What's up with these spaced out release dates? It's really bothering me.

What's up with these spaced out release dates? It's really bothering me. I think that's because good weather screws up BO in summer and in the fall there is great consistency overall. I dont think there is anything wrong in disney strategy. Not just for germany but also for Italy where summer seem to be horrible time to release.
