I know this is a Demon Slayer thing, but hasn't Demon Slayer also fallen off a bit from its 2020 peak?

well the manga ended 2 years ago but it still almost made top 10 best seller for 2022 and the viewership for s2 was still above even olympics iirc so i'd say its still just as big just in hibernation atm

hard to quantify - would say yes but mostly because ds' absolute peak is not sustainable (they were selling shit like 50M coffee cans with tanjiro on it for christ sake)

s2 viewership (live+dvr+streaming) was still gigantic and way, way, way ahead of any other anime...hell the fact that it it had eps come around 10% LIVE at near midnight is pretty gross

all that said, knowing how japan as a market behaves, if another film does get made (probably will because aniplex milks this thing in a morbid manner), would place the o/u on the 20b mark

Avatar - The Way Of Water Has Extraordinary Growth On Second Saturday

Avatar - The Way Of Water say extraordinary growth of 70-75% on its second Saturday as it collected in the 20.5-21 crore nett which is the highest collections ever for a Hollywood film for a second Saturday in India. The film has now started to beat Avengers Endgame game daily collections as that film collected a little under 19 crore nett on its second Saturday. .

The growth was extraordinary all over though it was Mumbai leading the way where the film has almost touched the 40 crore nett mark. Nizam / Andhra still leads the way as it crosses the 50 crore nett mark. The total collections of the film are now almost 223 crore nett and it is cruising towards that 300 crore nett mark.

The film could hit 250 crore nett in ten days today as it is a national holiday for Xmas though as it has fallen on Sunday the benefit of the national holiday will not be that big. The collections of Avatar - The Way of Water till date are as follows.

Friday - 40,00,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 40,50,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 47,00,00,000 apprx

Monday -  18,75,00,000 apprx

Tuesday - 16,25,00,000 apprx

Wednesday - 14,25,00,000 apprx

Thursday - 12,75,00,000 apprx

First Week - 1,89,50,00,000 apprx

that's a decent comparison...Unlike Titanic, Baahubali2 had record opening day, opening weekend. I am not fully sure about data pre-1980 but since 1980, Baahubali2 holds the record for highest footfalls In India despite releasing in 2017. Baahubali2 footfalls were around 110M...no other movie since 1995 had footfalls > 60M in India. Considering footfalls have fallen down drastically post-covid, I just find it really hard for any movie to cross Baahubali2 footfalls in near future...it was a rare movie which appealed to all parts of country, something which rarely happens in India due to language and cultural differences and it also had a ridiculous hype due to cliffhanger in Part1 climax.

Bahubali 2 was like endgame.

Bahubali 1 had such an epic cliffhanger "why did Katappa kill bahubali" that it made everyone hyped for part 2

Add in Bahubali incorporating deep mythalogical elements of Ramayan and Mahabharat...the film resonated across India unlike any recent film.

The film really made north indians finally respect South indian cinema and sort of made bollywood look like crap
