update: $1.42B without China. China looks like $220M.

After this weekend I think even $2.5B worldwide is possible. It needs +$700m and +1.7B OS to do so. It is at around $517m domestic after its 4th weekend(+$45m); TFA added almost $124m dom after its 4th weekend, NWH added $136.4m, A2 is doing better than both of them and has empty calendar till Feb 17th + some time till it gets Disney+ release (probably March). I believe it can add another +$180m to touch $700m mark (and $650m is the bare minimum at this point). Overseas looks even better, even if China's run will be over soon, the rest of the world is full on hype-train right now, $1.6B seems locked, even $1.73B is possible. The worst case scenario for now is $2.25B worldwide Imho and the best is $2.45-2.5B. Lets see how it goes in the next 5 weeks.

 

First Avatar's (-Russia and Ukraine) original run was $2.62B ww. The sequel would finish not far behind it (with covid situation in China and stronger dollar than it was in 2009/2010).

"Avatar: The Way of Water" had another INCREDIBLE week in Romania.

It has grossed $1.6M during its 4th week.

As of SUN (08.01.2023), ATWOW has grossed 28.47M RON ($6.13M).

 

The movie has now become:

The highest grossing movie of all time in LC.

The second highest grossing movie in USD in Romania (after Avatar 1)

 

Avatar 1 has grossed $6.64M in Romania, ATWOW should be able to exceed that number and become the highest grossing movie of all time in USD in Romania.

After its fourth weekend, Avatar 2 is now at 1.792M admits and has become the 10th biggest Hollywood movie ever in Turkey. The actual weekend numbers haven't been released yet, but with some basic calculation we can see it amassed 166K admits over the last weekend, which is down only an incredible 12% from last weekend. Even in the face of stiff competition and losing screens because of said competition, Avatar 2's run is still far from over in Turkey. It's more or less guaranteed to reach 7th place on the all-time Hollywood list. Anything further will depend on how it performs in the coming weeks.

 

For comparison, the first Avatar amassed 174K admits for a 24-day total of 1.2M admits.

In Thailand is 3rd highest grossing film of all time for now,and in Singapore is beating MOM become highest grossing film of the year,in SouthEast Asia region Avatar is 3rd highest grossing film of all time behind only AEG and AIW

Corpse of WOKJ Said that Avatar 2 run could possibly end in Japan next month early February b/c of that Special Demon Slayer movie might take all its premium screens.

For now global "legs" (current total / ow ww) of the film are x3.87. If it continues to drop like this till the end of its run, A2 should add another $687.3m ww = $2.396B worldwide final. Why it need "some luck"? It's almost locked that this film will gross more than $2.3b and every week the situation changes in the better way.

The final weekend number is in, and it's even better than the estimate. It scored 170K admits for the weekend, dropping a mere 9,8% from last weekend, for a 24-day total of nearly 1.8M admits. Everything else I posted when the early estimate hit still stands, so I won't repeat myself.

It's only getting IMAX, but yes, if it takes all of them (hard to tell how hard theaters will go on it since it's only a compilation but seems plausible to me), A2's run will basically die, she is absolutely right. Though that's not exactly much of a loss.

4th weekend here was insane! +31.4% compared to the last weekend (or better! it's still estimated). A2 has a shot to become the new biggest overseas hit in Poland after 1989 (for now Avatar is #1, Titanic is 2nd).
