thats even higher than the 7.4m OS that Gitesh reported, probably only a 15% drop from LW and thats with China being over $1m off LW

Yeah, I think we can safely say the Chinese run is over. An amazing result with context. A multiplier of nearly 5 is unheard of in the usually frontloaded China. Disney might have had a stalemate in this battle, but they will win the war for that sweet Chinese cheddar when Avatar 3 is released in a hopefully more normal market.

Yes.

 

Note - those 4.7K are shows not screens. There are 10K screens currently operating ~80% of total.

Actually in China it is pretty common to create a long holiday by ditching normal weekend schedule.

 

Normally China will pick one day in pre-Lunar new year weekend to replace the work day and one day in post-Lunar new year weekend. Avatar is kind of lucky this year because China decided to replace the work day using the weekend after the Lunar new year, such as this Sat and Sun. The normal practice like previous years will caused A2 to lose one full weekend before lunar new year come.

 

But next weekend is a normal weekend with Lantern festival on Sunday, expect every film to hold well or even jump in the next weekend. I still hope Avatar 2 can get at least 10k shows until other HLY film come.
