The Bikeriders | 6/21/2024 | Focus | Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy | Jeff Nichols

I just think it's so nice to have Tom Hardy being in genuinely good movies again.

I standby that this has potential for a mini breakout/decent performance. And I think this is a better trailer in that it shows a lot of the violence and action and focuses on the guys and the gang. But the trailer is making very little splash online from what I'm seeing. Focus/Uni's gotta push it a little more

Honestly this probably isn't destined to do great regardless as a period drama that clearly isn't an awards contender. That its original studio easily gave it up after it had already been screened during the fall festivals indicated that nobody knows what to do with this.

So much of this movie looks like pretty boys posing to me. Like it's very obvious I'm watching theatre kids performing their impression of what they think tough people are like.

Literally could not think of who you're talking about other than Butler, who looks cool anyway. Hardy, Damon Herriman, Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, etc all come across as rugged and rough

Unfortunately this is going to flop. Will be lucky to reach a 10m OW, and I don’t even think it’s going very wide

Yeah I think after Focus Features' recent floppings, it doesn't seem like they're pushing this very hard at all. This has more appeal than something like Drive Away Dolls and Lisa Frankenstein, but also has the unfortunate timing of releasing after those 2, and Back to Black

I have 3 theaters really close to where I live. This is only scheduled to play in 1 of them as of right now, which is very unusual for wide releases. Unless those theaters are for some reason late on their timings, there's no way this is playing in over 3000 theaters. 20th Century/Disney was gonna get this PLFs back in December. Now it's only playing in all of the smallest auditoriums

I'd say $10m is doable for a movie like this that I think people are hungry for (Adult, star driven, well reviewed, old fashioned "action" movie), but the awareness just isn't there. They need to put TV spots with the NBA finals but I know they didn't on Game 1.

I've actually seen a number of ads for this, but yeah, enthusiasm surrounding this seemed to die after it lost its original date (and original studio) late last year. I imagine it'll do well on streaming though.

Sooo erm... Im guessing this is a remnant of whatever dealings were happening when Disney was involved with this film but there's the Fortnite crossover for this...

Im thinking under 5m opening weekend like all Focus releases this year (Back to Black, Drive Away Dolls and Lisa Frankenstein)

It won't do that poorly but I'll be impressed if this makes over $20M total at this point.

Hmm, not sure why it won't do that poorly.  Nichols isnt a director that sells tickets. Same thing with the cast. A movie about a 1960s motorcycle club opening in 2500 theaters. Besides Cinephiles Im not sure who else is seeing it opening weekend.
