Merry Christmas to everyone - also why the fuck is Puss in Boots flopping/bombing so bad? Am I missing something?

Kids don’t like movie theaters anymore and parents don’t want to pay a leg and an arm for movie theaters anymore. Sad but true.

Puss in Boots is another family mega bomb. This audience is just not coming back to theaters ever again.

Budget listed as $80m, worldwide opening of $57m with the whole run into the new year still to go.

Sorry, not buying listing that as a mega bomb yet.

Good chance of it being a flop still, but bomb? Depending on your definition, I think that's unlikely. Certainly not in the Lightyear/Strange World category.

So were the SAT numbers circulating an overestimation or is 56m somewhat a lowball and we have to wait for actuals? Or is it just that Sunday did worse in context than Saturday , which seems weird

It’s a bit of a lowball, but also a Sunday Christmas (the smallest day of week bump), massive cold weather snap keeping some people home, and Xmas last year being especially weak, it’s reasonable to project low and hope for higher

But now, this is a solid number and when tomorrow numbers came way higher, the headlines will be great

1) Do the actuals make headlines?

2) Do regular people pay attention to those headlines when they saw the headlines about the opening weekend the day before?
