Considering the payout in USD is 71m.....Production will be 291-71=220m

Dom 172*55%=94.6m

OS-345*40%=138m

China-48*25%=12

Total recovery of 244.6m...we can assume the movie is not a flop now....decent success! Phewww....totally deserves not to be a flop! such a great movie

If you look into deep level stats there were a dozen if not more markets where it beat FALLOUT. Despite facing Barbenheimer and losing IMAX and PLF. Issue is that some big markets it disappointed which tarnishes the overall picture. USA, China, Korea underwhelmed. Main thing is that WoM is good and folks will check it out on other formats than theatrical by the time DR2 rolls out. Franchise is in a good spot.

In Italy Imax etc is basically irrilevant but in any case it surpassed Fallout which was the main target

But unfortunately if a film have a good result in 90% of the planet but not on the two largest markets (which are as big as all the rest) the final result can never be satisfying...

I'll do a comp between MI 5, 6 and 7 based on BOM figs. Figs will be rounded off.

  • Austria - 2.8 - 2.97 - 2.6
  • Belgium - 2.4 - 3 - 3.3
  • Bulgaria - 500k - 559k -437k
  • Croatia - 230k - 360k - 320k
  • Czech Republic - 551k - 1 - 960k
  • Denmark - 2.3 - 3.7 - 3.7
  • Finland - 1.3 - 1.5 - 2.1
  • France - 21.3 - 27 - 25
  • Germany - 13.2 - 16.4 - 15
  • Greece - 990k - 1 - 1.3
  • Hungary - 948k - 1.1 - 1
  • Iceland - 262k - 352k - 245k
  • Israel - 2.3 - 2.8 - 2.7
  • Italy - 6.1 - 6.1 - 6
  • Netherlands - 4.3 - 7.6 - 7.7
  • Norway - 2.7 - 6.2 - 4.3
  • Poland - 1.4 - 1.9 - 2.1
  • Portugal - 2.2 - 2 - 2.5
  • Romania - 856k -1.3 - 895k
  • Serbia and Montenegro - 117k - 159k - 177k
  • Slovakia - 265k - 335k - 322k
  • Slovenia - 35k - 206k - 214k
  • South Africa - 1.4 - 1.7 - 1.7
  • Spain - 7 - 7.5 - 6.7
  • Sweden - 3.2 - 3.6 - 3.4
  • Turkey - 2.8 - 1.5 - 1.2
  • Ukraine - 993k - 1.5 - 786k
  • UAE - 6.2 - 7.8 - 8.9
  • UK - 32 - 31.1 - 34

Dead reckoning figs are based on latest update as of 15-Sep-2023. I have ignored few countries like Jordan, oman, estonia as MI5 only has these figs and wherever "k" is mentioned it means the movie has not crossed a million.

Will do the same on LATAM and Asia tomorrow!

I guess we need to factor in shitty exchange rates too. Japan with 5B gross is currently lower than Fallout in USD by 6m! India too with 30% higher gross compared to fallout....DR is higher than fallout by just 200-300k.

Damn comparing even with the fifth movie? That's a lot of work, but it was very interesting 👍

China, South Korea, and the US account for approximately $200M of the difference between MI7 and Fallout. China alone counts for $132M of the drop.

We shouldn’t expect improvement in China for MI8, but it’s reasonable to think US and SK can, but we shouldn’t expect Fallout numbers.

Barbenheimer is definitely blame for the US performance but not sure exactly what happened with China and Korea

China makes sense, there was a lot of local competition and Hollywood has really declined there recently, but SK definitely surprised me. An almost 40% drop in admits from fallout, with less competition, and Barbenheimer not affecting it unlike in every other country.
