That Sunday Drop by Deadline is too steep imo. This is making 88.5m at the very least imo. TGM's second weekend is not safe.

When was the last time estimates for a movie kept going up and up throughout the week than weekends? That's right TGM.

Any movie would love being compared to TGM, especially with zero family competition for 4 weeks like Mario has been gifted with by the movie gods.

Wondering if Evil Dead Rise is going to perform like Pope’s Exorcist and Renfield too.

Seeing Renfield this afternoon.

Glad Scream VI is still top 10, despite 6 new wide releases, two horrors and losing 1,000 cinemas.

This only happens if you are a big japan breakout believer. Otherwise it should be somewhere in the 1.1b-1.2b range, low 1.2b maybe looking at the dom-int split.

True, Japan is a real wild card here. I was using Charlie's high end of $750 million OS (which accounted for $150 million Japan + South Korea) along with the expected $550-600 million DOM.

that decision to release Mario two days early was inspired in the end.

Plus it found the moronic loophole that sees the trades talk about a sophomore drop and compare it to movies that opened with Thursday previews.

Variety in their current weekend article on SMB….

A major release that opens above $100 million hardly ever slips less than 50% in its second outing.”

Hmmm, I wonder why that is? Christ.

Honestly all I truly care about with Mario at this point is if it can dethrone TLK remake WW. I can’t stand that travesty getting brought up as highest grossing “animated” film ever, and me wanting to scream from the rooftop that if that’s animation then so are the Avatar movies, and A1 is the highest grossing “animated” movie.

I completely agree. Though id personally like Mario to stop at something like 1,670B.

Well assuming Sat is 38m and it drops 35% tomorrow then we have an 85m weekend on our hands. Shawn's projection for this weekend is looking mighty accurate!

Didn't I have a long post about "Don't doubt Shawn" on Thursday:)...now, to post this and check the last 2 pages of posts and see if I get egg on my face when $38M isn't $38M (although hopefully, that's b/c it's higher!)
