It's at 28% on Rotten Tomatoes mah boi.

Yeah, it would've been an instant failure had they tried forcing people to pay nearly $20 per ticket to go see it. People these days are smarter and pickier, and with rare exceptions like Mario, reviews are a major factor.

The real question is, how the hell did the writers of great blockbusters like Deadpool and Marvel's Spider-Man trilogy put out a mess like that?

Also, the lowest 4th weekend over 40m grosser finishing with $685 DOM is another testament to why over I2 DOM is happening. Movies that get these kind of 4th weekends don’t just fall off suddenly with their legs.

Well OK, TFA did, but that’s a special exception of a box office run.

Except that movies also have the ability to make money on weekdays, not just weekends, and a family film during the school year is at a major disadvantage in that regard when looking at just weekend totals (which will be inflated as more business is squeezed into those 3 days)

If Mario has a similar weekend/weekday split as last week, makes ~$49M for this week and then has Incredibles 2 legs from here, it finishes at ~$597M. And given that I2's late legs were in the weaker calendar dogs days of summer where it dropped less than 37% for 6 straight weeks, while the competition is about to heat up for Mario, that's not a likely trajectory

Still say it will be $580M or so

Incredible for Mario and excellent for Evil Dead Rise.

John Wick 4 too!

John Wick & Dungeons and Dragons might get hit a little hard next week, as cinemas won’t be able to drop Margaret and George yet.

Margaret maybe but foreman and is doing worse then rotj which Is only out for a week...

To be honest, the impact is minimal. CAM copy, pirates wont go to the cinema anyway. And anyone planning to see it, wont be affected by piracy - especially if it is an animated movie that entertain your kids for 90mins in a theater. Puss in Boots 2 / Sing 2 were not impacted much (if any) by HD leaked copy from early VOD release..

I wonder if D & D has done well enough to warrant a sequel. It obviously won't break even, but it has great WOM and it unfortunately released the week before Mario in a crowded schedule

budget is 150 million so this is a bomb. They should have conceived the project with a set 90 million or less budget and created the story from there if they really wanted to start a franchise

I mean p!rate sites and t0rrents are extra work that most people wouldn’t be bothered with. The people who do p!rate and t0rrent movies have to actively search for it, and yeah a lot of them wouldn’t go to the cinema anyways. BUT Twitter is very much public and easy access. It is not some obscure site. This can absolutely affect causal viewers/movie goers. “Sing 2” leaked at a time when this wasn’t possible. Also, I haven’t seen Puss leaked on twitter until recently. It already finished its run. Mario is still in its fourth weekend. One tweet logs over 15 million views! There were multiple tweets up for days. No pirate site can ever get that much reach/views.

The movie was tweeted by a bunch of big accounts with millions of followers lol 💀. Also, people with check marks got priority on their tweets. The tweets got on people’s timelines even if you didn’t follow them. Tons of people saw it, even if they didn’t want to.

This absolutely affect people who are more causal/still on the fence and badly spoiled the movie for those are planning to see it.

Who’s to blame? I blame Elon’s new twitter. It’s a stup!d idea to allow people to upload hours long high quality HD videos. Because of the p!ss poor moderation (or lack thereof) twitter is having right now, p!racy is rampant and on a whole new large scale level. YouTube is instant at detecting p!racy and have appropriate punishment. These accounts on twitter are still posting a bunch of movies after one is taken down lol. The accounts didn’t get banned or anything. Just the tweets. I genuinely hope the big studios start suing twitter.

Great numbers for Mario and evil dead. Nice numbers for rotj.nice holds for d and d and wick...

Scream 6 breaks a 108 domestic...still wish it could have made it to 110

it was tracking for 110m or more then suddenly the last three weeks it had rapid theater loss leading to one bad drop after another. A shame
