Presales Tracking Information

I guess this is as good of a time as any to share this sheet I've been putting together for the past few weeks.  It's a table of movies from the past few years with relevant pre-sales information (release date, sales date, sales window, previews gross, etc.)  @datpepper and I will try to keep it updated when ticket sales dates are announced for upcoming films to make those easier to find.

There are a few gaps in the sheet where I couldn't find information, so if you have details that are missing (or are wrong), please reach out and I will update.  If there are any additional data points that you think could be helpful, let me know and I will try to add them.  I'm not sure if I'll continue back-filling (currently starts at F9 release), but this should be plenty to start with.

*Movies highlighted in blue did not have previews, but instead have opening day data.

So from the comps it worked quite well last week but I underestimated the walk-ups of Meg 2. Obviously the reviews and the very mixed reception of the predecessor did hurt way less than I thought. As a member said in the weekend thread, how big could/can these creature films be if done right.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter counted yesterday for Thursday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 17 (2 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 5 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 4 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 9 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 25 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 91 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 151.

Comps (all three films counted on Monday for Thursday): Prey for the Devil (660k from previews) had 115 sold tickets,
The Invitation (775k) had 96

and Barbarian (850k) had 156.
Renfield (900k) had on Wednesday of the release week 316 sold tickets.
And The Boogeyman (1.1M) finally (= on Thursday for Thursday) had 173 sold tickets.

At the moment I would also say 1M from previews.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter counted yesterday for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 6 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 0 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 4 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 3 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 38 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 82 (5 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 133.

Comps (all five films counted on Monday of the release week for Friday): Prey for the Devil (7.2M) had 149 sold tickets,
The Invitation (6.8M) had 87,
Old (16.9M) had 150,
The Night House (2.9M) had 24 in 5 theaters

and Barbarian (10.5M) had 70.
Renfield (8M) had on Wednesday of the release week 269 sold tickets.
And The Boogeyman (12.4M) finally (= on Thursday for Thursday) had 193 sold tickets.

The jumps could have been a bit better but I still hope for low double digits.
New numbers in a few hours.

Quick update. Checked over lunch, and southern Ontario radius is at 163, so a 15% bump from yesterday morning.

This is a long weekend around here where most people go out of town, or attend the Caribana festival in downtown Toronto. It's a weekend where I wouldn't expect people to be buying tickets for next week, so, 15% growth is pretty impressive.

There's still lots of empty showings, but the continued growth is very encouraging. But , to put it into context, with this film getting into context of other trackers, with this film getting a lot of larger auditoriums and PLF screens, with those 163 tickets across the 129 showtimes, it's at about 0.5% capacity.

Blue Beetle, T-9, southern Ontario

Sales have edged up to 189, so about 16% over the last 2 days or so.

Not tremendous, but, given the long weekend here, not unexpected.

Showtimes will go up overnight for the following week, where we'll see how many more showtimes it'll get.

Current showtimes are 133 across 35 theatres.

Jules had also yesterday 13 sold tickets for Thursday (in 4 of the 7 theaters).
Comps (counted on Monday of the release week for Thursday; not very useful with so few sold tickets but what to do?). Book Club 2 had 25 sold tickets in 5 theaters
and Asteroid City had 142 sold tickets in 3 theaters.
80 for Brady had on Tuesday 120 sold tickets.

And for Friday it had 7 sold tickets, also in 4 theaters.
Comps (both counted on Monday of the release week for Thursday): Book Club 2 had 16 sold tickets in 5 theaters
and Asteroid City had 165 sold tickets in 3 theaters.
80 for Brady had on Tuesday 91 sold tickets.

PS: I couldn't find any showtimes for Passages in my theaters, not even in the AMC Metreon or Citywalk (in some other theaters it has showtimes).

PPS: No showtimes in my theaters for Saw X so far (but for The Blind).

The Last Voyage of the Demeter counted today for Thursday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 17 (2 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 7 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 7 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 16 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 36 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 111 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 194.

Up ok 28% since yesterday.
Comps (all three films counted on Wednesday for Thursday = 1 day left for Dracula): Prey for the Devil (660k from previews) had 140 sold tickets,
The Invitation (775k) had 176
and Renfield (900k) had 316 sold tickets.
The Boogeyman (1.1M) finally (= on Thursday for Thursday) had 173 sold tickets.

At the moment it looks a bit better than 1M in my theaters.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter counted today for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 14 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 0 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 5 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 6 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 47 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 105 (5 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 177.

Up quite good 33% since yesterday (normally the Tuesday jumps are pretty small).
Comps (all five films counted on Wednesday of the release week for Friday): Prey for the Devil (7.2M) had 207 sold tickets,
The Invitation (6.8M) had 167,
Old (16.9M) had 262,
The Night House (2.9M) had 72
and Renfield (8M) had 269 sold tickets.
The Boogeyman (12.4M) finally (= on Thursday for Thursday) had 193 sold tickets.

Overall it looks better than yesterday because of the solid jumps but the jumps till tomorrow are more important.

Also, for records purposes, did we end up knowing what the sneaks/EA for Teenage Turtles was? @Shawn or @across the Jat verse

That $3.85 Million number was just Tuesday from what I understand, right?

I'll try and find out again, but otherwise whatever @across the Jat verse or anyone else can reverse engineer from the numbers he sees might be the only approximation we get.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Area Previews:

Last Voyage of the Demeter (T-3):

Day: T-3 Shows New Seats Sold Seats % Sold
Totals: 16 theaters 35 9 69 3227 2.14

Comps:

0.71x Talk to Me: $890k

0.34x Insidious Red Door: $1.71 Million

1.14x Beast:$1.05 Million

2.23x The Invitation: $1.73 Million

Will have a Barbarian comp tomorrow, that will point to a little over $1 million I'm guessing. High single digits OW is what it's looking like for me.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Area Previews:

Last Voyage of the Demeter (T-3):

Day: T-2 Shows New Seats Sold Seats % Sold
Totals: 20 theaters 48 34 103 4281 2.41

Comps:

0.79x Talk to Me: $978k

0.33x Insidious Red Door: $1.67 Million

0.944x Beast:$865k

2.63x The Invitation: $2 Million

1x Barbarian (On the dot): $850k

Average: $1.27 Million

Up against some comps, down against others. Worth noting that over half (19/34) of new tickets sold were from the local Alamo theater finally posting showtimes for this, so it's a bit artificially inflated. The two comps that make it look good are the worst ones imo (Insidious was walk-up master of the summer and The Invitation is PG-13 aimed more at girls). Thinking under $1 Million at this point.

How are you calculating the pace comparisons? It's holding pretty flat ratiowise vs. Flash And Fast X yet your comp has it decreasing a fair bit, are you taking an average pace over the last few days?

Pretty much, yeah. Instead of looking at sales volume, pace looks at day to day sales.

You talking about the US getting another Cinema Day this year? Man, Barbie is going to be PACKED that day. I might see it again then for the audience experience.

I heard the event was really hectic for theaters last year, hopefully they handle it better this year. I'm sure concession sales made it worth it for them.

Just noticed the same thing for the Cineplex near me as well, so more smoke fuel for that fire.

Yeah, my nearest Regal theater has 8/27 date completely absent from showtimes calender. It's happening for sure here.

They better give Barbie and TMNT the biggest screens, they will be the huge hits with families for sure.
