The Box Office Buzz, Tracking, and Pre-Sale Thread

A little Wonka update:
It had today for Thursday, December 14, 342 sold tickets in 7 theaters. 19 days left.
Comps (all three movies counted on Monday of the release week for Thursday so Wonka has 16 days left to come closer, overtake or increase the margin): The Little Mermaid (10.3M from previews) had 1.505 sold tickets,
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile (575k) had 49 sold tickets
and Dolittle (925k) had 156 sold tickets

Haunted Mansion (3.1M) had with 12 days left 194 sold tickets.
Uncharted (3.7M) had with 15 days left 454 sold tickets.
And Jungle Cruise (2.7M from previews / 10.7M true Friday / 35M OW) had on Monday of the release week for Friday 357 sold tickets.

So it didn't have a big jump since Monday (23%) but that's for the time being a solid number.

This counting is probably rather helpful for comparisons e.g. in the holiday season because I don't have Saturday comps. I was just curious if the sales already decrease or not. But just from presales, I can't complain.
 

Napoleon, counted today for today:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 246 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 176 (12 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 31 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 63 (not bad for that theater, 5 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 44 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 382 (7 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 440 (8 showtimes)

 

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 1.382.

We'll see which Saturday box office result Napoleon has but its presales number is quite fine.
On Tuesday for Tuesday, Napoleon had 1.170 sold tickets.
And on Thursday for Friday (= 1 day left) it were 1.061 sold tickets (it made estimated 8.35M on Friday; I guess the Friday for Friday number would have been similar to that today, also around 1.400 sold tickets).

FYI, I haven't posted my numbers for a week, but am seeing similar results. 7 sales across 20 showtimes in five theatres. It feels like it's too low to bother posting, as there's no real intel to get from it at this stage.

its going to fall behind by a lot vs Trolls comp tomorrow  

 

Trolls sold 36 seats from T-26 to T-25 

I'm not sure if Migration is going to sell 10

Has anyone seen marketing for Migration anywhere, like at all? I’m not a kid obviously, but I have not. Usually Illumination marketing is as omnipresent as a plague.

It was all over the Macy’s parade broadcast, which pulled in almost 30 million viewers. I get the trailer in front of nearly everything that’s PG rated too.

It's an original kids movie that's still nearly a month away and 2 kids movies are eating up the family dollars atm, it should be comped with elementals

I agree, Trolls has a built-in audience this does not. Plus, Illumination, while being a very competent studio at making movies families want to see, does not have brand sense in the sense that Disney or Pixar have (“have you seen the new Illumination movie?” Is not something most people would say, unlike with those two). 
 

All of this to say, let us wait a bit before we start judging pre-sales for Migration too much
