Not much sci-fi recently so comps aren't great (I missed Transformers unfortunately).

Better first day locally than Meg 2, Insidious, Equalizer 3 and Haunting in Venice so there is some hope.

For the sake of humanity I am hoping for at least $2m previews / $20 OW all said and done and not another 65 but we shall see.

Could be a fluke in my region but didn't notice any issues here, just sold slightly less today. All theatres I track were either flat or up. But I will keep an eye out.

I'm just not sure all that many more Friday seats can be allocated given the start time, especially as those Eras screens will need to be filled M-Th by some other content. I doubt studios will agree to a M-Th only booking in dead weekdays October, will expect at least 2 shows on weekend, and Exorcist a full screen for week 2. So max like half of all screens can go to Eras, even less for Friday. [Unless theaters are just going to have empty screens during the week].  Also fwiw, Barbeheimer had ~1.9M total seats at MTC1 for Saturday (though Barbie's shorter running time probably helped boost that total), and here Eras already has 1.56M allocated

If studios are smart, they will take advantage of this. For example, for TET IMAX screens that will be left wide open during M/T/W, something like Mission Impossible could take it and bill it as “Missed it in IMAX? Now is your chance!” Or if Barbie does really well in IMAX on Sept 22nd, it could take some days, or Oppy, etc. same goes for Dolby and other screens. Think outside the box studios!

Taylor Swift Eras Tour, southern Ontario, T-35 (6 am pull)

Note: Important update on showtimes below.

Total sales:  15,181

New Sales: -5855

Growth from Thursday evening: -28%

Theatre Count:  50

Showtimes:  96

Tickets per showtime: 158.1

Coverage Radius: 143km

Estimated population coverage: 8-10M

Theatres Tracked: MTC4

All matinee showtimes have been eliminated. Earliest show is now 6:00pm. There must have been direction to kill these shows.

Note, another regional chain here still has late afternoon matinees listed. We'll see how long that lasts.

I'm pretty sure these shows were eliminated overnight. With discussion here about impact of matinee shows, I was looking at some yesterday.

I figure people who had their tickets cancelled will be scrambling to pick up new tickets. There's still good seats at IMAX screenings, that weren't available day one because of Exorcist.

But it's not enough for the 5K people who lost tickets, so I'm curious how the chain responds here. I can't imagine it's a good idea to anger 5000 Swifties.

@Tinalera I would check your numbers from Vancouver to see if something similar happened on your end.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour, southern Ontario, T-34 (4:30 am pull)

Total sales:  15,392

New Sales: 211

Growth from yesterday 1%

Theatre Count:  50

Showtimes:  93

Tickets per showtime: 165.5

Coverage Radius: 143km

Estimated population coverage: 8-10M

Theatres Tracked: MTC4

Update on showtime cancellation:

-There's still no reference in MTC4 subreddit or the Taylor Swift subreddit about these cancelled shows. Based on sales, it doesn't look like people are operating on the assumption that the matinees are cancelled.

-A Reddit user at r/boxoffice has said that they have one of the impacted tickets, but have not received word from Cineplex. They only realized it's cancelled based on my update here.

-My theory is that they've shut down sales, but Cinepl is still trying to figure out what to do. Maybe they think they can get Taylor Swift's camp to allow early sales. Maybe they want to add more showtimes before cancelling existing. Either way, they're not communicating it out.

-I can't imagine that they stay in this holding pattern for too long. Some fans will notice. And once they do, they'll start flooding support lines with calls to get more inform.

For my part, I was complaining a few days ago how the low sales were getting a bit boring. I guess I got the drama I was looking for.

For those wondering about sales decreasing... from someone who still opens every seating chart - Fandango doesn't always tag blocked seats.   For instance, one screen in Phoenix has had an entire row (16 seats) marked out for every show, but they are coded as tickets sold.  I know to take these out from seeing them so often.  Well, yesterday they fixed the seats at the theater and now they show as available again.  If I had been counting them as sold tickets, I would have lost 32 tickets.  Just something to be aware of when using scrapers.  @TheFlatLannister @Porthos @vafrow

Taylor Swift Eras Tour, Opening Saturday southern Ontario, T-41 (10 am pull)

I thought I'd do a Saturday pull. Details and rationale below

Total sales:  18,051

Percentage of Friday sales: 91.2%

Theatre Count:  50

Showtimes:  282

Tickets per showtime: 64.0

Coverage Radius: 143km

Estimated population coverage: 8-10M

Theatres Tracked: MTC4

As Canada has showtimes starting from as early as 12:30 on the opening Friday, I wanted to see what the Saturday spillover effect is up here.

Saturday sales appear flat in the US comparisons, where it's a 9% drop here. I think that speaks to the afternoon availability not really being that appealing, sinc people are working or in school.

Still, it speaks to demand over the weekend likely being fairly steady, and not as fromt loaded as it may have been assumed.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour, Opening Saturday southern Ontario, T-35 (10 am pull)

I thought I'd do a Saturday pull. Details and rationale below

Total sales:  20,318

Percentage of Friday sales: 132%

Sales since T-41: 2267

Percentage increase from T-41: 13%

Theatre Count:  50

Showtimes:  282

Tickets per showtime: 72.0

Coverage Radius: 143km

Estimated population coverage: 8-10M

Theatres Tracked: MTC4

With the Friday matinee shows being nuked, I wanted to get a gauge on Saturday sales, especially if the chain officially cancels and ticket holders scramble to get other seats.

Once the friday matinees are taken out, Saturday sales now officially outpace the Friday by a pretty wide margin (32% above). If I add in the sales that are on hold, the gap still isn't big. Saturday is 3.5% down from Friday. And that's with matinee shows.

Overall though, it's still only selling at a bit faster than the Friday pace, which is slow.

Eras Malco Theaters T-34

Theater count - 24

Show count - 104

Seats sold - 4897

Total seats - 17486

% sold - 28.01%

New sales - 107 (+2.2%)

No new showtimes added yet. Must be a chain-wide decision.

Eras Malco Theaters T-33

Theater count - 24

Show count - 104

Seats sold - 4956

Total seats - 17486

% sold - 28.33

New sales - 59 (+1.2%)

Sales declined at 4 theaters again today (net total of -19). Think the issue has something to do with how Fandango is rendering blocked seats. I've noticed more X's being displayed than are being tabbed at a few showtimes.

Bit of wonkiness today getting my stuff working-so these are close approximation numbers, if Im off its not by much

Taylor Swift

Fri Oct 13

Calgary Canada

    # theatre #show Seats Sold Seats Rem Ttl seat Percent
Calgary Fri 4 12 1705 649 2354 0.7242

Right now just doing Friday shows as I basically am rebuilding my eat volume for each screening, having to do a new way of doing things.

What I CAN say is that these numbers may be off but not by much, most of the shows here are are 30 or less away from absolute sell outs

The Creator counted yesterday for Thursday, September 28:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 45 (2 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 18 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 1 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): no showtimes yet
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 1 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 92 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 170 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 327.

Comps (all four films counted after ca. 1 day on sale) M3gan (30.4M OW) had 57 sold tickets,
Beast had 53,
The Black Phone had 95
and The Exorcist had 171 (with less than 24h) /268 (with a bit more than 24hs) sold tickets.
65 had on Monday of the release week 157 sold tickets

and Moonfall had also on Monday of the release week 584 sold tickets (but small jumps in the next few days and it must have had bad walk-ups).

Pretty good start. The only „problem“ so far is that the sales are very uneven: As you can see, it has very good sales in the AMCs in San Francisco and LA but not e.g. in the AMC in Miami.

Wow. Surprisingly strong start. Don't want to get my hopes up though,.
