$800M total worldwide would put the film second behind Joker for highest global grossing R-rated film ever (I think). International numbers have been running about 50% ahead of domestic ones and the gap is widening every week. The film probably has at least $80M-$100M more in the tank domestically so $200M-$250M remaining WW seems likely with China being a huge unknown. It needs $244M to reach $800M. It might just be able to do it considering a resurgence and IMAX re-release around awards season is almost a certainty.

Still have Korea which can add 40-50M based on the amazing presales.

That’s why i think 800M is locked, it probably needs just 200M or so from current markets, seems very doable.

I’m so sad about Friedkin death

The Exorcist is probably the most important movie of my life, it’s tragic he died just a month before premiering his final movie at Venice.

Such a strange feeling to see your idols starting to go away, the next few years will be sad as fuck.

Honestly the 'wokest' thing in T2 wasn't Sarah being tough, it was refusing to let the Terminator kill anyone.

God, I can picture the YT thumbnails in my mind right now.

I thought that was one of the better parts the movie and it got one of the bigger laughs as well after he shoots the guy in the leg and says he'll live. I still crack up at that joke 30 years later.

I watch the Back to the Future trilogy for my teen and crazy scientist time travel fix. Marty and Doc were the OG and better Rick and Morty versions.

I enjoyed back to the future part 2 but it's definitely a step down from the first and I personally thought back to the future part 3 was incredibly entertaining.

As for the original film, it's absolutely flawless and perfect in my opinion. You can't make a movie like that ever again. It's a movie that just caught lightning in a bottle. Every single aspect of the film is perfection.

Meg 2 making more than Indy 5, Flash, was not on my summer bingo card

If you're talking about just domestic, the Meg part 2 is not going to get five multiplier.

If South Korea delivers that much, then $800M WW is pretty much in the bag. I'm really curious if the film can channel any lingering Korean or Chinese resentment against Japan for its atrocities in WWII. If the film does that and it overcomes its very American focus in its last third, then China could deliver some hefty numbers as well. It doesn't strike me as a film that would play well with Asian audiences; but a lightning in a bottle situation in those two and other Asian countries besides India could produce some jaw dropping numbers given the subject matter.

I thought Bullet Train was ass but WOM with the GA was incredibly high - I don't see Meg 2 replicating its holds, probably expecting closer to a 2-2.1x multiplier tbh

To multiplier reserved for films that have horrible horrible word of mouth or films that open so huge and have a built-in audience and a rapid fan base that rushes out to see it. Even in Twilight zones didn't have two multiplier they're always around 2.3 2.4

Plus the Meg part 2 has summer weekdays and still 4 weeks left in the summer. I don't see any way this finishes with only 60 million bucks.

Can’t forget the greatness of French Connection, one of the best new wave movies period. Even Cruising was insanely daring and risky

The Terminator franchise (and maybe the Alien franchise) could benefit from a complete hard reboot with a new cast of performers starting the series over from scratch.

Unfortunately, there are two major problems with that. First, there is not a youngish action star who could step in to fill Schwarzeneggar's shoes. Michael B. Jordan comes to mind perhaps but Hollywood has sucked at building new young stars for over a decade now and I think you need a recognizable name in role.

Second, in this age of social media, the hunt depicted in the original movie would be almost impossible to replicate with any plausibility in modern times. The Terminator would always know where Sarah is by searching her Instagram or Facebook or TikTok posts. I suppose the movie could be set in the 1990s or early 2000s; but I am not sure moviegoers would buy it. More creative minds than mine would be needed to solve that problem.

I finally watched Sorcerer for the first time a couple nights ago after seeing it getting championed online for the past decade and it absolutely deserves the hype. Phenomenal movie.

To Live and Die in LA is also another banger from him that was a flop in its time.

Neither franchise should be rebooted. Do something different with killer robots/aliens/AI.

Comedy films usually doesn't do that well overseas. Barbie humor becoming huge OS, means the patriarchy jokes must really be landing with overseas women. Women have to deal with the same crap everywhere no matter the nationality. This is turning into catnip for females which should be fantastic for legs.

It’s depressing how lame Mario’s post first month legs were tbh. There’s no way it should have petered out before 600. Hopefully the same fate isn’t in store for Barbie (I don’t think so since it’s facing a lot of nothing vs Mario facing summer).

And maybe even with men. There was one joke that really made me laugh hard. 🤣
