SPECTRE | 11/6/15 | Final Trailer on Page 126! | Twitter reactions coming in, STID 2.0?

If Spectre gets a "Hobbit 2" drop....it would push it to $265-270M DOM & $1.070B WW.

Now, to be fair, Hobbit: DOS didn't have a huge WW-drop from AUJ, and still made nearly $960M WW. It had a more softer & respectable drop.

And Spectre didn't come off a just okay movie, cause Skyfall was really good.

Drop to Hobbit: DOS's WW-gross? Not to those numbers, thanks.

And also, we can't assume that it will drop big because....a drop is always obligational. Quality needs to matter if this will be huge or not. And yes, China will be the biggest key-factor.

But....no, bad buzz or not, I can't see this going too much lower than Hobbit 2 & Hobbit 3, WW-wise. And even those films didn't drop massively.

I am really getting F&F 5,6 & 7 vibes from this.

Action does look all kind of F&F crazy.

One CGI sequence gives you a F&F vibe? I'm not seeing it. The action in Spectre looks credible and fantastic. Compare what we've seen of Spectre's car chase in Rome to anything in the last 3 F&F movies. Big differences in tone, physics, scale and authenticity.

The marketing just hasn't clicked for this movie. But I'm quietly confident Mendes will deliver another decent Bond film. The action in Skyfall was sparse but satisfying, and I'm hoping that's the case here. Say what you will about the franchise, but its devotion to practical stunt work remains admirable (CGI cave-in notwithstanding).

Box office-wise it's sort of off the hook because no-one expects another performance like its predecessor.

$ is way stronger than 2012. That will have an factor. Growth in Asia(espcially china) will be the key. I think its gonna drop big from Skyfall.

Agreed especially since Skyfall's biggest markets were in Europe, Australia, Japan & Mexico where the exchange rate is down 20-25% (or Russia/Brazil where it's down about 50%). Spectre could sell as many tickets O/S and still be down $150m+

No one predicted Skyfall's ultimate box office and critical success from its trailers and marketing. So, the doom and gloom from some about Spectre is crazy. The film looks great. Could Spectre gross less than Skyfall? Of course. But I think Spectre will be Daniel Craig's Thunderball. As far as cinematography and artistry, Spectre looks better than Age of Ultron, Jurassic World and Ghost Protocol.

I agree. Connery's top movie was Thunderball. Roger Moore's was Moonraker. Piece Brosnan was Die Another Day. Each actor had to wait until their fourth movie to get their highest gross.

Quantum of Solace should have taken more, but the plot was not satisfying. Had that had the same quality as Casino Royale and Skyfall, it would have taken a lot more money, and we would see that the Daniel Craig movies had incrementally increased with each film. There is no reason to think that will be reversed.

In North America, every Bond movie has increased its gross since 1989.

I agree about Quantum Of Solace. A rushed production schedule and writer's strike hurt the film.

Taking this discussion a little further, I think that Bond's box office over the last 20 years is comparable to the Batman films.

1995

Goldeneye: $352 Million

Batman Forever: $336 Million

1997

Tomorrow Never Dies: $333 Million

Batman & Robin: $238 Million

2005

Batman Begins: $374 Million

2006

Casino Royale: $599 Million

2008

The Dark Knight: $1 Billion

Quantum Of Solace: $586 Million

2012

Skyfall: $1.1 Billion

The Dark Knight Rises: $1 Billion

Spectre may decrease from Skyfall domestically or internationally but like The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, that difference won't be as big as some are predicting. Skyfall had a great mix of marketing, timing and cultural relevancy, as did The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight Rises may not have played to expectations but its financial success matched that of its illustrious predecessor.
