JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Long time no see catlover. Glad you are back.

Btw in Indonesia Frozen is definitely more popular than I previously thought after seeing it by myself

Been busy with work lately. And world cup :P. The hours that I spent to visit this forum, are now used to watch the games, or to sleep early. So you're in Indonesia right now? Believe it or not, I still hear Let It Go everywhere lol.

This World Cup is not very time friendly :P . Lucky I'm on holiday.

Yes, I'm in Indonesia right now. I heard Let It Go (Demi Lovato version) once on radio, but I don't listen to radio much. I saw one pre-school put a big poster about the Frozen play that they were doing. One doll shop even put a big poster saying that they sell official Frozen stuffs. I want to go there but it's a kids and females kind of shop :P . The most surprising thing for me is karaoke in Indo (NAV) has "Life's Too Short" on the song list. Not sure why they put a deleted song.

Frozen brings its 17-week total up to ¥24.63 billion ($241.5 million) with 19.35 million admissions.  It has noticeably slowed down adding less than ¥400 million ($3.7 million) for the week, but such a figure in its 17th week is massive (only Spirited Away has a higher 17th week).  It's looking to finish with ¥26 billion ($255 million) as long as the DVD release on July 16th and the July 19th openers don't kill it, but if it's withing striking range of Titanic's ¥26.2 billion total, Disney should and probably will go for it.

Hopefully, the announcement of the DVD release has already done the damage that the DVD openers would have done.  So that everyone who has decided to wait for the DVD has already been accounted for by the huge drop from $12+ million per week to $5 million per week that happened right after the DVD announcement. Plus with the summer surge, maybe we can see Frozen stabilize right around the $4 million per week level and hold that for another few weeks.

This movie has already exceeded my wildest expectations.  Taking in $260 million total in Japan, taking #2 from Titanic in the Japanese all time BO rankings, and taking in $1.28 billion worldwide will be the icing on the cake.

So will that scary looking Super Typhoon Neoguri be hitting Japan's boxoffice hard? I hope the country will be okay.

Eh, the storm isn't much really.  The Japanese deals with these storms (and earthquakes) better than anyone.  This is like the 10th typhoon/tropical storm or something already this year.  Neoguri is strong, but once it reaches central Japan winds are expected to be around 50-60mph.

They're hit with earthquakes measuring 4-6 practically every day, or more once a day.  There's been like 40 that strong since June.

There might be some lower numbers on Wednesday/Thursday, but I honestly doubt it causes any effect on the box-office or any notable damage to the country (aside from some flooding).

Corpse, have you ever thought about putting some of your amazingly detailed information on all-time records on the Wikipedia page about the Japanese box office? It's rather bad and empty at the moment.

Good idea. Just remember somebody else will have to have published it first.

Common mistake. :P

I'm actually going to try to get my own website up that'll feature everything I've been posting for years.  It would provide weekend data, dating back to 1998, all-time charts, misc. charts (actors, directors, certain milestones, etc.), and more.  We'll see how that turns out in the next couple months.
