JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Doesn't the above the placement for Pokémon and Marnie go against what was mentionned by the link: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/japan-box-office-godzilla-comes-721560#2

It correctly indicated that Edge of Tomorrow was tenth with Godzilla and Maleficient first and second respectively.

They're reporting rankings by admissions.  Pokemon XY was third in admissions, ahead of Marnie, but Marnie is third in gross.

Why is Godzilla's average ticket price so high ? Just marginally below 1.500 yen per ticket.

Its 3D share, while not great, wasn't too bad.  And it also likely attracted a greater male audience than female (by greater I mean maybe 60% or so), and probably few people under the age of 40.

If a film doesn't attract enough young people (school age or younger), women, or seniors citizens, then its average ticket price will be quite high since those demographics mentioned receive the most available ticket discounts.

You had an update (somewhere round March or April) on the state of the box office for the year and it was overall kinda meh IIRC. Will there be another one of those?

Last I saw reported had the year up around 10%, but that was a few months ago.  If any yearly report is released, I'll be sure to post it.

Also, there were two mistakes in the chart I posted above.  Maleficent was actually higher while Marnie was slightly lower (though admissions were the same for it).  I've edited the original chart.

No, I just typed 2.94 million admissions instead of 3.04 million. :P

Maleficent earned 300,720,000 ($2.9 million) with 215,955 admissions over the weekend, down almost 38%.  The drop is a bit harsher than it probably should have been, but it kinda balances out its really strong second and third weekend holds I guess.

You have to wait too long for that. I hope Cameron will do a great job on the next three movies he has planned. If they are really as good as they can be, each movie can make $3 billion worldwide which would be a total of $12 billion for the franchise.

Avatar 2 - 2016

Avatar 3 - 2017

Avatar 4 - 2018

I see a lot of movies in IMAX 3D and I will still say that Avatar is the best 3D movie and has one of the best effects/CGI ever. There has never been a movie with so much detail to the background.

Lets not forget the story the moments that just have people crying.... That ending of her saving Jake and not caring hes human and screaming my Jake!! EPIC Film making.

I actuall think  the sequels may increase each time on  a gigantic scale... So one of those films may go over 4B WW.. So  this could be the greatest run ever in the history of sequels.. 12-14+B by the end is definitely possible.

 Could be a scenario .. Avatar 2 3.3-3.6B, Avatar 3 --4b+, Avatar 4.. Oh my 4.5-5B WW :)...
