JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

For the first time Zootopia was really strong during the entire day. Maybe WOM is starting to spread among adults ?

I don't think it actually was. It made 40.4% of its total after 2PM. That's in line with last Friday (40.1%), Saturday (40.6%) and slightly stronger than Sunday (38.8%). Meanwhile Conan's numbers were 45.1% on Friday, 48.8% on Saturday, 41.9% on Sunday and 45.4% yesterday, still higher across the board.

Were Frozen and Big Hero 6's afternoon totals strong at the outset or did they slowly become stronger as time went on?

Oh, my bad then. I must have been fooled by the difference compared to sunday. I really had the impression that it didn't lose that much of its early lead on Conan compared to last week.

On its opening saturday, and based on 1/3 of the market at the time, BH6 registered 39,822 out of 83,537 admissions (about 47.5%) before 2.30 pm, so yes it seems it was much stronger than Zootopia in the afternoon and the evening.

It definitely lost less of its lead, but it was much stronger across the entire day. Although I don't think opening day is the best way to compare the movies, because Zootopia was very strong then too. Ignoring the non-holiday weekdays (the first Monday through Thursday and this Monday), Zootopia had by far the strongest afternoon and evening percentage on its opening day, at 50.6%. I think the next day would be a better comparison, as Zootopia dropped to 40.3% after 2PM on Sunday, while Conan managed 45.5%.

13.9% after 7PM, that is very strong in the evenings then. Here's yesterday's top 8 for comparison (before 2PM, between 2 and 7PM, after 7PM):

59.6% 34.3% 6.1% Zootopia

54.6% 37.1% 8.4% Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare
38.7% 44.5% 16.8% Captain America: Civil War
71.2% 28.8% 0.0% Crayon Shin-chan: Assault on the Dreaming World
55.6% 36.2% 8.2% Chihayafuru - Part 2
37.7% 45.9% 16.5% I Am a Hero
45.3% 40.1% 14.6% Terra Formars
45.4% 37.9% 16.7% The Revenant

Of course, that was 8 weeks in for Frozen, although I don't know how much of a difference that makes.

Frozen got weaker in the evening but it started out with big WOM.

Zoo is building WOM with older crowd.

Yes, but it has Iron Man! That makes expectations a bit higher.

This is not the only country where it makes IM3 numbers.

MCU movies are always very front-loaded in Japan.

@Agafin

If it sells 210,000 tickets according to the sampled theaters, it will sell more tickets than it did on its opening Saturday and Sunday combined.

I think it's very likely.

It's looking like 225,000  $4m will happen(1200 p/tix). It need 115,000 by 1400

Poor is in line with AOUs performamce. Nothing surprising here. Japan continues to lose interest in SH.

Now that would be awesome. 225000/316317 would mean selling 71% of the seats in reporting theaters.

I guess Zootopia is going to be a smash hit in Japan after all.

Frozen reached those saturation levels. Very possible

I know WOM carried it after it opened, but why did Frozen have such a high opening weekend? Better marketing? High interest in the subject matter? Love of magical girls?
