Film / Wknd. Estimate / % Change / Week in Release
1 (1) Ted (Toho-Towa) ¥271 million ($3.04 million), -18%, Week 3
2 (2) Life of Pi (20th Century Fox) ¥221 million ($2.49 million), -33%, Week 2
3 (3) Strawberry Night (Toho) ¥214 million ($2.41 million), -32%, Week 2
4 (-) Jack Reacher (Paramount) ¥210 million ($2.36 million), 0, NEW! [321 Theaters]
5 (4) Les Miserables (Toho-Towa) ¥143 million ($1.61 million), -10%, Week 7
6 (5) Tokyo Family (Shochiku) ¥92 million ($1.03 million), -36%, Week 3
7 (-) Yellow Elephant (Showgate) ¥82 million ($925,000), 0, NEW! [235 Theaters]
8 (6) One Piece Film Z (Toei) ¥66 million ($740,000), -38%, Week 8
9 (-) Documentary of AKB48: No Flowers Without Rain (Toho Video Division) ¥49 million ($550,000), 0, NEW! [119 Theaters]
10 (-) Berserk Golden Age Arc III: Descent (Warner Bros.) ¥39 million ($440,000), 0, NEW! [93 Theaters]

Ted is still a beast .

Solid second weekend holds for Life of Pi and Strawberry Night.

Jack Reacher could have done a bit better, but the results are enough to achieve the ¥1 billion ($12 million) milestone at the least. The estimate would be about 86% of Valkyrie's opening weekend. The 3-day total should be close to ¥250 million ($3 million).

Audiences are still in love with Les Mis in it's seventh weekend, and still in the Top 5. If it didn't become the highest grossing musical of all-time this weekend, it definitely will before Wednesday.

Yellow Elephant performed pretty well, selling approx. 22% more tickets than Showgate's New Shoes last fall.

The Documentary of AKB48 only did 2/3 of the admissions of last year's film. I'm sure the films cost next to nothing to release, so I'm sure we'll see another next year. The "scandal/controversy" surrounding the YouTube video of one member's apology after being fired for having a boyfriend (against the bands rules) could have been a factor, too.

Berserk III did alright for itself and opened higher than it's predecessor, but still way less than the first film. This one though was hit with the rare R-18+ rating, so it's a great accomplishment to even rank in the Top 10. To put the rating into comparison, Django Unchained which will open next month is "only" rated R-15. R-18 ratings are pretty much the NC-17 rating in Japan.

3 (2) Life of Pi (Fox) Week 2
4 (-) Jack Reacher (Paramount) NEW!
5 (4) Les Miserables (Toho-Towa) Week 7

Ted was down just 10% in admissions from last weekend and has exceeded the 1 million admissions mark after three weeks.

Jack Reacher had the best debut among the openers taking in ¥227,774,400 ($2.6 million) with 187,422 admissions over the weekend [321 screens]. That's a pretty low avg. ticket price on opening weekend, so it had to have skewed older.

Les Miserables has become the highest grossing musical of all-time with "about" ¥4.2 billion ($48 million) after seven weeks, topping The Phantom of the Opera's
¥4.1 billion total. It was also announced that the soundtrack had
first weeks sales of 40,000, which is very strong for a movie
soundtrack.

Yellow Elephant debuted very well for a Showgate release earning ¥85,497,630 ($950,000) with 63,653 admissions over the weekend [236 screens].

One Piece Film Z has reached a staggering ¥6.61 billion ($75 million) after eight weeks.

10 One Piece Film Z (Toei) ¥16 million ($180,000), -53%, Week 9

Ted will claim it's fourth-consecutive week on top.

Brain Man did so-so. Ghost Rider 2 of course bombs.

And there is a very close battle between Life of Pi, Jack Reacher, and Les Miserables for 4th-6th place.
