Michael Gary Scott
The Purge was one of the worst movies from last year
Ozymandias
Good horror movies are rare these days. The Conjuring is the first horror movie to come along in awhile that feels like a lot of effort was put into it. A horror film that is carefully crafted from start to finish with suspense, thrills, and fucked up creepiness without stupid or lame revelations/final acts along with characters that aren't completely annoying or act like cliched horror movie fodder every chance they get are hard to come by. Even the kids weren't annoying in it. The Conjuring is my favorite horror movie since The Descent. Stuff like Mama, gorefests + tortureporn, and especially the Paranormal Activity movies are all low effort nonsense. Jack Nevada
Great post Ozymandias, though I do think the first Paranormal Activity is quite effective. The sequels that followed have obviously been total toilet.
Jake Gittes
I'll defend PA3. The second one was pretty bad, though, and I haven't seen PA4 or The Marked Ones. Don't want to, either.
Jack Nevada
As I said in a previous post, the last ten minutes of Blair Witch are more rawly terriifying than all four Paranormal Activity movies put together. Ozymandias
The Blair Witch Project is great because its mostly about people unraveling and mentally breaking down very convincingly. All the weird creepy stuff that happens in that movie is almost secondary.

McNerdy
- I'm getting tired of the superhero genre, I don't see why there is a need to make so many superhero movies every year. - The hobbit 1 and hobbit 2 are good movies (but hobbit 2 is better) Edited January 11, 2014 by McNerdy
Webslinger
- The hobbit 1 and hobbit 2 are good movies (but hobbit 2 is better) That's not really an unpopular opinion. In fact, if anything, it appears to be the consensus.

Its too bad the sequel sucked so hard.

I found it to be just like most other horror movies about possession. I agree more effort was put in and the kids weren't annoying but I was still unsatisfied with the end product. I think great horror movies are so rare these days that when's one simply just good, it's a big accomplishment.
