The Robert Downey superhero film opened in 15 additional markets on Thursday after a record breaking opening dayin 12 territories on Wednesday. The film grossed $3.6 million in the U.K. and $3 million in South Korea on its opening day. Leading markets include Australia, where the film has grossed a commanding $8.1 million ahead of the weekend. Iron Man 3 will be released in China on May 1st. I'm curious as to whether this reported outrage by Chinese bloggers over how little airtime the film's Chinese stars actually have and the lack of China-set scenes would affect its box-office over there. More China-set scenes could mean better box office in China but less would not really matter. And of course the general Chinese audience are upset that there are two different versions for IM3. A lot of jokes on the suit not working perfectly. Although the plot is darker and is about domestic terrorism and there is a whole section where Tony visits one of the victims' mother to apologize.
