You think Ted? I would imagine his audience would greatly overlap with TDKR. Just seems like all the 18-40 year old men who would like the sophomoric humor of Ted (and that's not a jab - I loved Ted) would be pulled over to Batman.

Not as greatly as you may think because Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder, and Step Brothers all did well in the wake of TDK.

Well, I guess the precedent is there... so that's good. Wasn't what I expected, but still happy with it.

Here's how I see holdovers being affected by TDKR.

Safe

Moonrise Kingdom

So-so Safe

Ice Age 4

To Rome With Love

Brave

Ted

Magic Mike

Ehh

Savages

The Amazing Spider-Man

Madea's Witness Protection

Madagascar 3

Katy Perry: Part Of Me

In Big Trouble

People Like Us

Too Late To Be Too Affected

Snow White & The Huntsman

Prometheus

The Avengers

MIB 3

Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

EDIT: People Like Us is losing 75% of its theaters this weekend, and most other films fell a normal amount. Also Dark Shadows gained 173 theaters, so expect fudging to occur.

Well, if someone would have told me a month ago that TASM would be dropping 35-40% week to week just before TDKR was released, I would have told them that would be the best situation possible for it.

An interesting note about the box office in Canada. You might be seeing greater jumps on Tuesday in Canada and bigger drops on Wednesday than before. Cineplex Odeon just bought most of the AMC's in Canada. AMC did not have cheap Tuesday, they had $6.00 matinees on weekends. Now they have scrapped that (bastards) and all the locations they bought now have cheap Tuesdays. This could affect the box office big time.

Out of the 8 sites, Cineplex bought 4, Empire 2 and AMC still have 2, Empire do have the discount tues as well as Cineplex. the AMc's overal isn't significant enough to have dramatic effect

Thurs looking like IA4 4.6, TASM 3.5, TED 2.2, Brave 1.5, MM 1.4

Not bad. TASM had a big drop but it must have lost all IMAX screens for late evening shows so even its drop isn't as bad as it could've been.
