The frontloadedness can also be attributed to it being the first live action Hollywood movie to be shown after the protection period, disregarding Meg which is a co-production.

But is the GA aware that The Meg is a Chinese co-production, and does it even matter? The movie is in English.

Pretty sure many of them knows. This unofficial blackout period is known to many and the period ended with HT3 on Aug 17. Just like The Great Wall, it is in English but gets a December release date and GA knows it’s a co production.

Key here is that in the past 2-3months, the supply of Hollywood Movies is very rare, and this may be a factor for the stronger pre-sales and front-loadedness.

Ant Man 2 seems to have passed SMH by a mere 1 million Yuan to become highest solo SH opening weekend in lc. Still can go down with actuals but this is where we stand with estimates.

Approximately 68m OW in USD which is second highest I believe after SMH

I don't think that's a factor at all...I think we're seeing a Marvel film released during summer vacation for the first time and it's naturally going to be more front-loaded than other releases.

Also, moviegoers had a much more steady diet of import films this summer than in previous years...Skyscraper, The Meg, Mamma Mia, Shoplifters all got releases in July.

M   41.6m

T    33.9

W  28.1

T    23.7

What does that mean for the multi?

It will probably reach 2x OW, 930m/136m, because of the strong weekdays.   M-Th 255m

expect a 75%+ drop next week, like SMHC with MI6 opening.                         Fri-Th  150m

The following week looks quiet and should make.......                                       Fri-Th   50m.

Evenings has been slow for Ant2 in general so around 64 mill Monday.

20% drop tomorrow to around 51-52 mill is my guess. Anything over 54 mill would be a succes

Ohh. And Meg drops beutifull again today with 11+ mill and will cross 1B yuan tomorrow

that's flat from 2nd friday (~11.5). 1050 ($154) is the most it can do I guess.

edit:

high $130s dom + low $150s china = $290 from these 2 markets with 55% and 43% theatrical revenue.

$137*0.55 + $152*0.43 = $141

os-china should be at least $210*0.40 = $84

$141 + $84 = 225$ theatrical returns globally. that's great.

Using 40% for OS-China like Barnack said below....

Your .33 for a big studio distributor is even a bit pessimistic there.

WB could achieve around 45% OS on a Potter, Sony made 42.2% on a movie with no China release like The Karate Kid, people tend to go with a rule of thumbs of around 40%.
