Lihongkim
17 hours ago, TigerPaw said: I think it might work if those roles weren't cameos, or those people are good actors. And I think Hollywood can't differentiate that. Eg: Jackie Chan, Jet Li in Hollywood films will work. And I would say Jiang Wen and Donnie Yen in Rogue One, their characters seem pretty important... will work. But not Jay Chou's 5min cameo in NYSM2 or Angelababy's 20min yet unimportant role in ID2.... Some actors just seems like a natural fit, while others seems so forced. I think the issue is that many Chinese feels that Hollywood is pushing too hard to earn their money, and its backfiring. So many people are hoping these 2 film flops so Hollywood will stop using such techniques to trick them of their money. Taking Asian celebrities as cameo/small role is the only thing that Hollywood can do for the whole Asian. Oh! wait! that's not for Asian. It's for Asian money. Even some original Asian roles were taken by white actors, so the way that they took Asian cele as cameo/unimportant role is more than enough. I won't surprise anymore if Mulan will be play by white actress. I'm being curious about The Great Wall. VinceMichaudC
Lionsgate on Friday had its biggest opening day ever in China with Now You See Me2, and is now looking at a record three-day. The sequel to the 2013 summer hit pulled $14.8M out of its hat yesterday in the Middle Kingdom — a magical increase of 790% in local currency and 679% in U.S. dollars versus the first film. Through Saturday, the two-day total is $36.4M (240.4M rmb) sending the film to a potential $50M China weekend which would be Lionsgate’s biggest ever opening in the market. http://deadline.com/2016/06/now-you-see-me-2-china-lionsgate-international-box-office-1201779165/
