Holy shit, according to The Wrap, this is the Storm Pilot movie we were waiting for! Not a real spoiler but I'm playing safe so: 

 

 

ake doesn’t get any love interest at all in “Pacific Rim Uprising,” but he keeps making deadpan comic references to his own good looks. “I’m sexy,” he tells colleague Nate (Scott Eastwood), matter-of-factly, as he fixes himself a large bowl of ice cream with lots of toppings. Several scenes later, Jake does a very accurate impersonation of Eastwood’s low speaking voice, and then talks about how sexy Nate is.

 

Referring yet again to his looks later on in the film, Jake says, “This face is set up well…beauty is a burden!” Boyega is definitely a good-looking guy. The camera likes him, and he has a commanding vocal presence when he issues orders late in the film. So it’s worth asking why his character is always talking about his own good looks and joshing with Eastwood’s character and almost totally uninterested in the women in the cast.

 

Since Boyega is a producer on “Pacific Rim Uprising,” he had input into how he wanted to come across on screen, and surely he didn’t want to come across as fixated on himself and on Eastwood.

Hannibal Chau is not in this...Pearlman didn't want to do it without Del Toro is my guess. I'm a little less interested in this movie, but I'll see it. The CGI artists did an incredible job with the robots and monsters.

LMAO if this ends up with better RT than AWiT. So far, it looks like it might even end up fresh which would be a surprise of the year!

I am going to the theater just for the spectacle/vfx/action. Just hoping it is better than last 3 Transformers movie.

Critics are not being hard on it due to John Boyega. PC and all. Oh and Steven is well liked in the fan/blogger community.

A lot of times..and Tele can confirm this...giving an actor a "Producer" credit is just meaningless but egoboosting coutresy title. One joke is that one studio head said he made an actor a producer because he could pay him less money that way.

It's getting a lot of 3/5 passes, in fact of the 11 fresh reviews, 9 are 3/5. More studios should do this - reduce expectations to below rock bottom so that anything else is seen as an improvement.

Either way BP is going down this weekend.  PR:U is not opening under 20M with favorable reviews. Damn, what a turn of events. never write off a shit looking movie... unless it stars Fassbender!

Most likely will end with a Valerian type score as that movie also started out well and then collapsed once US/UK critics chimed in. They might give this a pass as it isn't competing with a Nolan movie. Stupid Besson.

The original ended up with 71% so this has a good chance to end up higher. Mind you, reviews, when you actually read them, are not good but the reviewers opt to give it a fresh grade so that's that. I think that they still believe this (GdT's PR and the sequel) is what TF should have been just because it isn't directed by Bay.
