MI:RN opens well in south india (source: bookmyshow). TC movies always do well here EoT too did well in south india...popular south indian entertainment tracker said EoT was a superhit in south.

Major cities like chennai hyderabad opened very well with 50-60% occupancy for morning shows good considering it was released on a weekday.... shows after 4pm are either almost full or 80-90% full.....whereas biggest city in south india bangalore (my place :P) surprisingly opened avg and evening shows were decent....

it had paid previews yesterday in Imax theaters(from morning) in bangalore and mumbai.....bangalore had 5 shows and 2 fulls..... morng show was 90% 1.30pm show was 40-50% full 4.20pm more than 50-60%  7pm and 10pm shows were full

it was a 300+ seater ticket price was Rs450($7.05)

while mumbai has 3 imax theaters most them opened with 5-6 shows evening shows were good with registering fulls

Welcome Back had a shockingly good OW. Must have been a lot of goodwill from the first one. I was rooting for this movie just because literally everyone seemed to be against it for some reason

Welcome Back has sailed through on Monday despite the high costs of the film as per the face value it had and emerged a big HIT. The collections are rock steady on Monday and although its too early to put a number to Monday it is very unlikely to drop more than 40% from Friday which means a minimum 8.5 crore is there and this number should be higher when the day finishes.

A circuit like Rajasthan which opened strongly is just 30% down from Friday and with these circuits working, it means the film is going to be a good runner for the next 2-3 weeks. The film will cruise past the 100 crore nett mark and will be no surprise if it goes above 125 crore nett.

Welcome Back has hit the 90 crore mark in terms of worldwide gross collections. The overseas collections are set to be around the $3 million range while the domestic gross figures are around 70 crore.

Pyar Ka Punchnama 2 was a hit and earned 4 times the first movie and exceeded the first movie in just one weekend. Shandaar crashed and burned. Looks like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will do really well over Diwali.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 has grossed 45 crore nett in ten days as the second weekend did business of 8.25 crore nett. The film benefited from the crash of Shaandaar as its the same target audience and with the reports of Shaandaar being bad it gave a Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 a good boost at the beginning of the second week. The film dropped just 30% on Friday coming off a holiday on Thursday as the audience switched back to Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2  from Shaandaar which was a Thursday release

Shaandaar crashed further on Monday as expected with business in the 2 crore nett range. This is similar to what Bombay velvet grossed on its first Monday but that film did not come from a 11.75 crore nett day one. The daily collections of the film have come down 80% in a matter of five days,

BOI saying that PRDP is set to break records:

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is heading to create history tomorrow by recording the highest opening day in history and beating the opening day record of Happy New Year. The film has good advances with around 10% tickets sold for the four day weekend though the percentage goes higher for the first day. This is very good for a social family drama.

The first day of the film is the best day for box office collections in the year and the audience on the day will see it through to an all time record. The target for the film is not really the Happy New Year opening day but to break that 40 crore nett barrier which may enable the film to remain at 30 crore nett or higher each untill Sunday if content is there.

The Diwali period has just one all India holiday and it is about what the film does after this big holiday. Last Year Happy New Year set records on the opening day but could not do another 30 crore day after day one. This business on Friday will tell what are the real levels of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and more important than day one being an all time record is day two being a non holiday record for long term success.

Only BOI saying that, Koimoi and Bollywood Hungama both saying 40 Crore but second behind HNY's 45 Crore.

They just posted a chart listing HNY at 36 crore, didn't realize there was that much of a gap between them and other sources for a single day.

They're saying 29 for Friday now as well, so we're looking at around 90 for the weekend.

Either way, it is a big opening for sure. Should do well this weekend as it is a family movie, but reviews from my family members who watched it is not great. Almost every single one seems to be "Not even close to Bajrangi Bhaijaan". I was genuinely shocked by how good Bajrangi Bhaijaan was (one of my uncles is a co-producer on it, he has been bitten by the Bollywood bug now). I really didn't expect a Salman movie to be that good, it helped that Salman smartly underacted and stayed in the background for most of the second half.

Top grossers of the year so far: BOI

1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan - 315 cr

2. Tanu Weds Manu Returns - 149 cr

3. ABCD 2 - 103 cr

4. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - 96 cr (3 days)

5. Welcome Back 96 cr

6. Gabbar is Back 87 cr

PRDP will cross 200 cr easily, and let's see how much more it does. Pretty disappointing year tbh, only 4 hundred crore films so far, and only Dilwale/Bajirao Mastani/Tamasha are left. Out of those Dilwale will definitely score big, BM might, Tamasha don't think the buzz is that great.

BOI with their technical analysis indicators.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is has notched up huge numbers over the first three getting close to 100 crore nett and that too with just one major holiday. It all looks good and rosy on paper with such huge numbers and a solid Saturday trend also which is day three but there is still a case for concern as the trend in key areas are not as good as collections suggest.

In this multiplex era, Delhi city and East Punjab have become hugely important, not just because because the huge multiplex concentration in the area but because how well they sustain in the long term when a film works. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is not really performing in this belt as collections came down on Friday to low levels and fell again on Saturday.

The last five years have probably not seen a film sustain in long run when Delhi and Punjab is not performing barring Singham in 2011. Delhi city has grossed around 6 crore nett in three days while Mumbai city is around 8.50 crore nett and normally Delhi city should be more or at worst on par. Its not a problem at the moment as Mumbai and Central India are phenomenal and keeping all India totals high.

A Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1999 could not perform in Delhi city also but still came through very well but the importance of Delhi city is probably more today and if Delhi and Punjab come down heavily on Monday from these levels then a real big number won't happen and even 200 crore nett will be in doubt despite these huge opening numbers. A low Delhi city and Punjab has a huge affect on numbers after the weekend due to the huge sustaining power in these belts.
