THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2
With an additional $62M this frame, MJ2 has an international tally of $242.4M. At about the same point in the run, MJ1 was on $254.6M. That figure did not include China where MJ1 opened in February this year. Part 2 has taken $21.8M there to date in a competitive market that has never truly sparked to the franchise whose books have not had the same exposure. Combined with domestic, the worldwide total is $440.7M after 12 days in release.

The top ex-U.S. market is still the UK where Katniss targeted another $7.8M in the session for a $29.2M cume and a hold at No 1. That’s followed by Germany with $7.5M for $25.2M, slightly higher than MJ1 at the same point and also at No. 1 in the market. Mexico comes in after China with a drop to No. 2 and a total of $14.4M, followed by Australia where the tributes are still in first place after adding $3.7M for a $12.7M total to date.

Spain was the new opener this frame — and the film’s final overseas market — which brings the total to 92. Katniss & Co wisely held Spain for this weekend, rather than open head-to-head last frame with local sequel Spanish Affairs 2. MJ2 came in at No. 2 in its debut with $4.1M versus SP2’s strong No. 1 hold with $5.7M.
Universal is releasing that film in Spain, but also has Mockingjay 2 in Italy. Katniss stayed on her toes inside The Boot with $1.7M and the top spot for an 11-day total of $7M.

Let's see. MJ2 has made $12m less than MJ1 at the same point. IMHO, this is headed to somewhere 650-700. I honestly think that the best scenario would be that this could reach $310m in US following the same figures than MJ1 from now (something that I see unlikely, mainly within 3 weeks because of SW), and maybe, $370-380m OS. You must remember that MJ1 had not been released in China in this moment. To make a fair comparison you have to add the $36m that MJ1 did in China to the MJ1 cume after 2nd weekend. The real difference after 2nd weekend is maybe of about $40m if we consider that MJ2 has been released this weekend in Spain and that it can still make some dollars in China. Following the same run than last year, it would give us about $380-390m OS. Adding a great run from now in US, it could reach $700m, but I see it difficult because of the SW factor. Right now, $700m is the roof, not the floor.

With a $62m w/e O/S I don't see it making another $150m for $390m O/S unless it had holiday boosted late legs and Star Wars is going to severely hurt that possibility.  My estimate is $290/$365 for $655m WW

You are right. I was considering the best possible scenario, which does not seem likely mainly because SW7.

 

I am thinking in similar numbers to you: 285-290/360-370/645-660
