Stop trolling. The director of Book of Life was happy for Coco due to the diversity and is excited for it. He always had plans for a trilogy.

“In terms of Starbucks and that kind of thing, I made a decision early on that I didn’t want to lean into pop culture references on this film,” Unkrich explains. “It’s an easy gag to do stuff like that, and we try to make films that are timeless. I want people to be watching these films 75 years from now, and who knows what will be out in the world then? We tried to not go for that easy pop culture reference laugh.”

Does anyone fear this could go below TGD?

 

It comes just 5-days after JL on a Wednesday (like other Disney Nov animations). A JL which promises to be lighter than previous DCEU films.

Disney's Thor3 - a colorful family friendly romp seemingly - which will have taken a hit from JL will itself be recovering and competing for families at some level.

 

Then there is nothing much till Ferdinand and SW8 which will be Coco's 4th weekend and it will show a huge drop and try to recover some during Christmas.

 

What if it becomes Pixar's first sub-100 dom film? 42.5 5-day / 30 3-day gives 94 dom using TGD's legs

both of those look like disappointments to me but they will occupy screens and will take away some audience. star will be on day 6 when coco opens, a bit too close even if it's a lesser animation.

 

even JL will be on day 6 when coco opens and that's a bigger comp as it seems to be of lighter tone and wonder's presence makes it more family friendly. so coco does not seem as competition free as it first looks due to lack of big releases till sw8 and ferdinand in coco's 4th weekend, but holdovers will be giving competition. thor3 too will be putting in noteworthy numbers even after taking a hit from JL, and will try to retain screens.

 

not smooth sailing for coco imo.
