Well they can't put it in summer. Too much competition. Realistically, i dont see anywhere on the schedule where this could survive. MLK weekend is not a bad date, it's going against two sequels (both of which will surely decrease from their predecessors) and a war drama. I see it opening two or most likely number three, behind probably The Revenant or The Hateful Eight.
I think it looks fine, the plane cgi was terrible but everything else besides that looks good. The release date for this is the only thing giving me pause.
Pixels has made 114m OS, (185m total) with countries like Japan, China and Australia still yet to be released. So it seems like this will eventually break even.
I have a feeling that this will have a similar fate to Red 2. It was a one-off film that didnt require a sequel.
It will get killed by Finding Dory and then Independence Day: Resurgence
The reason disney struggles to outright win marketshare is because they usually release the least films out of big 6. So if one or two of their films underwhelm they don't have any mid level budget films to pick up the slack.
None.
But if i had to choose which ones have the best chance? Either The Perfect Guy or The Visit
If The Perfect Guy starred Taraji P. Henson then for sure >15m OW.
Mainly because of the release date, and the fact that's its more of a character drama rather than space spectacle. Although with that reported budget, things could have been changed/added.
Even Interstellar didnt make 200m, and that was Christoper Nolan. These space dramas really have to connect with the audience. Plus this has huge competition from Rogue One. I think 300m is highly unlikely. I'll eat my shoe if that actually happens, because it would prove the star power argument for these two without a doubt.
Right now, it's looking at 200m as the ceiling.
Internationally, around the same amount. so 400m WW should be the goal and i think it's doable with great marketing and good WOM. If it's an Oscar contender, than that's even better.
Maybe more of Dre's legal issues will be in the extended cut, i remember seeing a jail scene with his wife in one of the promos. You can't put everything in a 2-hour movie, it was already dragging a bit at the end. Dr. Dre is a musical pioneer, but people need to stop putting these artists on pedestals.
Tom Holland joins. Shooting already started, so you should probably move this to the main forums. I think it's likely going to be a late 2016/early 2017 release.

I think the ones with the best chances after those four are: The Martian, The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials and Hotel Transylvania 2
Everything else is a bunch of wildcards.
Great Monday number. This really is the movie everyone wanted to see in August., not F4 or Man from Uncle. And it has the rest of August plus september to get money. there s literally no competition until Maze Runner/black mass
I think this was hurt by MI more than anything else. MI had the older guy audience, that this film needed to survive. Ironic that Cruise was originally supposed to star in Uncle. His presence would have assured atleast 20m+ OW.
Destiny's Child wouldn't make a good biopic. No one else besides Beyonce became a star or had an identity. The main drama was switching the line-up a few times and Beyonce's dad being a cheating bastard.
If anything TLC deserved the big-screen treatment; they had better music and life stories.
Tupac had a great documentary called Tupac; Resurrection so im not sure a biopic is needed. It really has to be done right because he is such an icon.
