  1. Coraline and Paranorman both had about 4.5m OD's, so that OD range means BoxTrolls should easily be Laika's biggest opener. Probably around 22m or so which would be stop motion's first 20m opener. I knew the marketing looked appealing to kids.
  2. I hope Maze Runner gets fantastic WOM and breaks 100m total. Such a pleasant surprise at the movies.
  3. Looks like it could even leg its way to 60 eventually. I was wondering where the older audience summer hit was this year, but I guess we found it now.
  4. Watched Avatar recently and I actually think it may be getting better with time, which kinda shocked me since I figured it would be the kind of movie to get worse. Have always adored it though and never understood why some threw such fits about its success. Absolutely deserved.
  5. ...and Invictus, and Gran Torino, and Changeling. Man hasn't gotten any awards recognition since Iwo Jima in '06.
  6. Too bad The Identical didn't open in like 50 more theaters. It could have joined Oogielove and Delgo as the biggest very wide flop opener ever, lol.
  7. Only until audiences finally woke up a few years back and realized he was pulling his movie ideas out of his butt too.
  8. These spots are cute, but they may as well have just called this Baymax, since he's clearly their focus for this. I mean yeah Disney excels at side characters, but they should still be side characters.
  9. Hot damn, that number for GOTG is just insane! Zzzzz on everything else and major zzzzz's on this summer as a whole.
  10. I wasn't sure whether to make this more of a 'films that are my favorite to watch' or 'films I actually think are the best made' list. So I did it as kind of a hybrid of both, with slightly more emphasis on the latter. And there's still plenty of so called "classics" I have yet to see. Top 10 honorable mentions first: Dial M for Murder, Ed Wood, Christmas Vacation, Wreck it Ralph, March of the Penguins, Scream, American History X, Rope, Rebecca, My Fair Lady *Dishonorable mention: Citizen Kane (that movie can keep all of its praise, I ain't having it) Top 100: 1. 11. Except 95% of movies that even get re-released are ones that were hugely successful back in their original release or have long since made profit through other ways. So yeah I don't really accept that as a reason these re-releases have to be the same price as a new movie.
  12. I remember this dude legit scared the shit out of me when I was a kid :
  13. I still have my Green Ranger Halloween costume my Mom made me when I was like 5.
  14. I love seeing re-release in theaters too. But the price of a new movie is completely unnecessary and reeks of studio greed. Unless like terrestrial said and there's something new/remastered about it or it has a premium (3d/imax). Though even then it shouldn't be as much as a brand new imax 3d movie.
  15. IKR? I still can't believe the critics gave it that high of a score. Michael Bay must have paid them off or something.
  16. I really don't see why an old film re-release should be the same price as a new one in the theaters though. It just takes away so much of the incentive to see it. I mean second run movies aren't the same price as when they're in first run. It doesn't make sense (aside from greed that is).
  17. I'm expecting great things from The Boxtrolls later this month based on Laika's previous films, what I've seen, and early screening reactions. I'm a stop motion fan though. Otherwise September looks really bleak to me for movies I care about.
  18. I was gonna see Ghostbusters with a friend last night until we realized the tickets were 12 bucks for a freakin' 30 year old movie. If it were IMAX or something that would be one thing, but c'mon now.
  19. ^I like that spot better than anything I've seen so far from it. The city looks breathtaking.
  20. Dear god, for some reason it just now occurred to me that Turtles is gonna beat Dragon 2 at the domestic box office. What.the.literal.fuck.America.
  21. Having a really hard time with this. I've narrowed it down from like 350 to 122, but now I can't figure out anymore films I want to cut out, lol.
  22. Dunno about her acting chops, but Lana would be perfect for a Bond song, imo.
  23. Angels and Demons was both an enjoyable book and movie. The Da Vinci Code book was moderately enjoyable. The rest of the books/DVC movie sucked. So I expect this to be meh too unless some big liberties are taken. And as you said, Ron Howard is not gonna be the one to do that so yawn...
