  1. Finally, a thread for Indonesian box office! I've been collecting and compiling box office data in Indonesia since 2007, when Spider-Man 3 was the highest grossing Hollywood movie ever with only $5.2m. Nowadays that number won't even crack yearly top 5, or even top 10 in a strong year. It's really hard to find box office data in Indonesia. I used BOM, the-numbers, even imdb for my sources. But for some years and some movies, I couldn't find it at all. So thank you for creating this thread and providing the numbers. Btw can FF8 be the first movie that crack $20m? Or will it stop at $19m? It's crazy how much we love this franchise. Nothing will come close this year. Justice League and Spider-Man will probably make more than $10m but I'm not sure they can pass $15m. Also I'm actually not surprised that King Arthur is #1. It's more appealing to the general audience here than a sci-fi/thriller/gore movie like Alien. And the marketing was stronger for King Arthur. I didn't even know Alien was gonna be released last week.
  2. Yeah I didn't know either it was released today in Indonesia. While I was aware that King Arthur was also released on the same day, thanks to the posters and trailers. Poor marketing for Alien Covenant. But I'm still gonna see both maybe next week, since this week I'll be enjoying movies at the European Film Festival. They are screening Elle, Toni Erdmann, Son of Saul, Mustang and other much more interesting movies.
  3. Indonesia. I don't know about the other South East Asian countries, usually we have similar taste in movies. But PR is definitely not a failure here.
  4. Well, most OS markets. PR is a huge hit here in my country. I don't know the numbers, but a lot of sold out shows throughout the weekend, even on Sunday night. It's even playing on multiple screens at some theaters. Pretty busy weekend, with Beauty and the Beast still killing it in its 2nd weekend, and Power Rangers breaking out.
  5. Not in Indonesia. We only have one public holiday for Chinese New Year, and this year it falls on Sunday. So no holiday boost whatsoever for RE6 here.
  6. Just saw it and it was good. It wasn't the best movie ever thanks to the its predictable story, but I loved the characters (great cast!), enjoyed the actions, humor, and drama. I had so much fun. Denzel and Chris Pratt were charming as always.
  7. Ah I see. And yeah, good year for local movies. Among those 7 titles, 2 are over 3 million attendance. I think it's already a record for most local movies above 1 million attendance in a year. And the total attendance for local movies also almost beats last year's number. With 5 more months to go.
  8. Where did you get that data? It's in line with the data reported by the numbers. According to that site, it made more than $11m in Indonesia. That's like the 7th biggest movie of all time and biggest horror movie ever by far. It made more than Jurassic World and Star Wars! And I think it's the 3rd biggest movie this year so far after CA:CW & BvS. Somehow The Conjuring series is very popular here.
  9. Having seen the movie, I still think Dory will make waaay more than Zootopia, and end up near Finding Nemo. The theme about family is a recipe for success in Japan. That's what made Frozen and BH6 had crazy legs. IO had a strong family theme too, that's why I still don't understand why it didn't do more. It did have great legs though. I have a feeling that WOM will be exceptional for Dory because of this, the same feeling I had about Frozen and BH6. Like I said, I think the family theme of Dory will help its WOM to reach adult/young adult audience as well. I might be wrong, but we'll see.
  10. Ticket prices actually increased a couple of years ago, thanks to the tax increase policy. But that was the first time ticket prices changed in decades. Before that, they had stayed the same since the 80's or the 90's I think. That's why the all time list doesn't change that much.
  11. Here in Indonesia, The Conjuring 2 is a blockbuster. Sold out shows everywhere, even when it's playing in multiple screens. The demon nun is really popular right now. There are memes of it (him/her?) all over social media and the internet. Somehow we LOVE horror movies, especially the Conjuring series. The first movie was a huge hit. And then Annabelle was so popular that it was in the top 5 yearly box office chart. I think this will be even bigger considering how good the WOM is, with people saying it's one of the scariest horror movies ever.
  12. Not as successful as Conan in terms of movies. Except for One Piece, I don't think any of them managed to make 6b yen with any of their movies. Conan did (or will do) it with the latest entry (which makes it the highest grossing entry) after 20 years. Doraemon also had its highest grossing movie this year I think, but it's not that much different from what it usually makes. Conan's resurgence in the last few years is indeed impressive. It once only made like 2.4b yen, and now 6b. So yes, it's an uncommon thing.
  13. That's why he/she said it is becoming a huge brand. It might not be there yet, but it's getting there. I mean if Zootopia makes more than 9b yen, then that makes 3 WDAS movies in a row with 9b+ yen total. Not even Pixar could do that. Among all Pixar movies, only 3 made more than that. If that doesn't make WDAS a shining brand, I don't know what does.
  14. Yeah I would say the Ice Age movies. They were huge almost everywhere except Japan, in which they bombed. And I also agree, Inside Out actually did great in Japan. It's interesting that 3 last WDAS movies, with different themes and styles all have extraordinary legs in this country.
  15. Wow! Not only admission though, it's also +20% in yen. Which is what, 450m+ yen? How much did it make on OW?
  16. I'd say it has a very good chance. Its post-GW hold was exceptionally good. No competition until July too, I think.
  17. It is much better than AoU. WOM is great here in Indonesia btw, even though it's facing a tough competition from a local movie, which will have the biggest OW of all time among local movies.
  18. Seems like great openings for CW. Curious about the the no.1s and no.2s. No numbers from Indonesia as usual.
  19. That's the point. This is NOT Wall Street. It's a forum, where we can have fun talks, and healthy arguments, predictions or even competition without anyone getting fired or their lives ruined if they're wrong. If someone doesn't agree with you, you can argue but that's it. Nobody has to own up to it or whatever. Your statistics and calculations might be useful, but your "Wall Street" attitude rubs people the wrong way. It's making this thread not fun anymore. I mean bring your knowledge here by all means, but maybe not that attitude? I'm just saying. Also, Corpse provided us with a lot of useful data and information, but we don't get those anymore, unless we copy them ourselves from another forum. I'm not saying he's more valuable than the other posters, but he did bring something valuable to this forum. And I feel that his absence here is a loss for us.
  20. Actually, it IS a serious competition for Civil War. Long lines and sold out shows everywhere for AADC2. It's possible that some theaters will take screens from Civil War and give it to AADC2 to meet the demands. I mean, AADC2 is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Of the last 14 years even. Too bad both movies, which had the potential to be the biggest movies of the year, or even of all time, are released at the same time. And judging from the tweets, it looks like that AADC2 is also a competition for Civil War in Malaysia. Both movies are still doing really really great though.
  21. Yeah, with great legs Zootopia could outgross Detective Conan in the end, even if it only opens half as big. Conan is consistently frontloaded anyway.
  22. That's too bad, because I agree, it's better than his last 3 movies combined. I enjoyed it a lot. When he finally makes something good, it's not appreciated enough. Maybe The Jungle Book affected it?
  23. Holy shit! That's crazy! 6.5b+ total? Unbelievable. Bad news for Zootopia then. No.1 debut is unlikely now. I hope it breaks out there in terms of legs. I want that $1B WW.
  24. OMG! Possibly 1B yen OW for Conan? That's amazing! Conan's box office history is interesting. It once dropped as low as 2.1b yen total in the early 2000s, but for most years it was stabilizing at around 3-3.5b yen. Suddenly since 2013 I think, it broke franchise record every single year, by a pretty big margin each time. What happened? Anyway, it's so sad what's happening in Japan. And Ecuador too. I've experience earthquake in Japan several times when I lived there. No matter how prepared you are, it's still scary when it actually happens. Thank god it was never that bad.
