ecstasy
That and Secretariat. Wtf is up with those numbers?Okay I went and checked the box office performances of both Red and Secretariat.Red pulled in 199m ww- 90m in the U.S.- So the dvd sales look to be understandable. But Secretariat only made 60m ww. The DVD sales are pretty incredible in relationship to it's box office performance. I guess people were just waiting for the DVD.

John Marston
is it just me or are DH2's DVD sales kind of disappointing? I mean I understand DVD sales in general are down, but jeez this is the final damn film yet it can't sell as many copies as the recent Twilight movies? What the hell is going on? I mean even if you add the DVD and BR sales it doesn't equal OOTP's DVD sales alone. How can people own the fifth film in the series but not the final film? It is just so weird.
Noctis
Are you kidding? There's absolutely nothing wrong with 6.61m DVD sales, which does NOT include the box sets, etc. How much did Eclipse sell? When it's all over, DH2 will likely end up with around 7.3m DVD sales, which is a 1.8m difference between that and Eclipse. The Blu-ray sales MORE than make up for the difference, which means DH2 will end up selling more copies than Twilight, New Moon, or Eclipse when you factor in Blu-ray sales. There is nothing weird with this. Plus, DVD sales have been in the crapper since the beginning of the year. Edited December 14, 2011 by Noctis

John Marston
Of course there is nothing wrong with it, but I am sure the overall numbers between Twilight and HP's disc sales (since Twilight has Blu ray sales too) will be more closer than I thought. I don't see why you people are getting so defensive

ecstasy
Blu-ray is squeezing the market, although DVD's will be harder to kill than video.Digital Media is putting the squeeze on as well. Illegal downloading has to have some effect.
John Marston
it really is bad. And it is not because of the films as some critics say. Most people would agree that Thor or X-Men First Class are better films than Ghost Rider but GR sells 5 million copies and those two only 1M? Fast Five has also sold less copies than Fast And Furious, and everyone agrees Fast Five is the best film in the series
Marek the Jedi
there are so many factors making DVD numbers smaller and smaller, and Blu-ray can't cover DECLINE of PHYSICAL MEDIA,unfortunatelly Blu-ray will never be as big as DVD were, and in coming years digital downloads will take over....I hope for sake of quality of presentation that blu-rays will be here another 5-10 years hopefully.....we should make also TOP TEN for DVD+Blu-ray, that will make better top ten to compare with years like 2007-2008-2009Marek

cookie
Blu-ray is squeezing the market, although DVD's will be harder to kill than video. They're definitely trying though. Every single new DVD I've bought since 2009 has been bare bones, little to no bonus material. Everything except the movie itself and maybe a few commentaries have been shipped to Blu-Ray. tommycruise
Im surprised that the numbers for Inception are so low, but i guess it must have done a lot better on Blu ray.
vc2002
Im surprised that the numbers for Inception are so low, but i guess it must have done a lot better on Blu ray.Inception did pretty well on bly-ray, but the fact is the DVD market has been shrinking fast. Keep in mind that even Toy Story 3 and Avatar, top 2 DVD sellers in the last 3 years, just sold a little over 10m units each. 10m would be considered average 5 years ago.
