Randi Mayem Singer is set to write the screenplay for Fox 2000′s ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 4, the sequel to 2007′s “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” 2009′s “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” and 2011′s “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.” Plot details are still under wraps, but the film will presumably, like its predecessors, center on the singing chipmunk trio Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Karen Rosenfelt is executive producing throughSunswept Entertainment, and New Regency Productions is also involved in the production.Singer is best known as one of the writers of the classic family comedy “Mrs. Doubtfire.” Since then, she has written the script for the 2010 comedy “Tooth Fairy,” and has worked extensively in television. She served as showrunner on the two-season comedy “Jack & Jill,” and currently works as a consulting producer on CBS’ “Mom,” on which Faris stars. Singer also wrote the original draft of “Wish List,” a project that seems to currently be stalled at Disney, but which at one time, at least, had Reese Witherspoon attached. A subsequent draft of “Wish List” was written by Glen Berger and Jonathan Aibel, who, coincidentally, also wrote both “The Squeakquel” and “Chipwrecked.”

The second one is fun but the third one is trash.

The 2nd one is what killed the 3rd. The first has wide appeal. So people returned for the sequel. The sequel was only good for little kids, so the 3rd suffered. 

 

EDIT: Btw, the 3rd is awful, I think it killed the franchise for good.

I'm was a huge chimpmunk fan growing up but the movies never did it for me.  With that said the fact they are on the fourth installment is enough to say this franchise is a win.  People can say the quality of the franchise isn't great and that's is debateable.  But this is a Billion dollar franchise now:
