So PR lost to WWZ in Japan. Ouch.

Not a surprise at all.

WWZ was always going to destroy PR in Japan. likely more than double.

It actually isn't that bad a weekend, and if it wasn't for two movies opening on Wednesday, it'd actually be pretty damn good. WTM would have challenged 35+, and Percy Jackson, flop that it is, would have done over 20, giving up all four openers with over 20 million.

In what regard? Tickets sold or BO gross? Because adjusted for inflation I find that hard to believe.

Dollars. Obviously it was never going to reach the highs of 2002, but it's gotten a lot closer than most years. It's a genuinely big summer.

It must be gratifying to have an entire country described as "Brad Pitt-loving Japan," or something to that effect. I hope Clay Miller obsessed Puerto Rico one day becomes a thing. God, movie stars have such power.

Anyway, Elysium had a solid Saturday number to get over 30- I don't think WOM can carry it to 100 though. WTM has excellent WOM, though, and I wouldn't be stunned at all if it approaches 100

WTM could be WB's 5th 100 M film this summer.

I doubt it. Most kids' movies had pretty lousy Sat jumps so it decreasing makes sense.

Most kids’ movies still have jumps on Saturday (Monsters University had a jump on Saturday, which is rare by Pixar standards), Planes making less on Saturday than Friday isn’t the most promising of signs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it dropped 50% next weekend, which would be huge for a kid’s movie, especially one that only opened to 22 million.

Well, considering most of you were convinced Planes was making a comeback on Sat and Sunday, winning the whole weekend, I'd say Elysiym did great.

Also seeing a very bright OS future: much, much ahead of the stupid OS number of D9.

I think Elysium has way more overseas appeal than District 9.
