Box Office League - the play offs are almost here!!

Okay, have had this idea in my head for a while and thought I would finally post it and see if there is the interest to actually try it.The structure is quite simple. It is a league where each week players compete against one other player within the league until everybody has played everybody once. So if there were an 8 man league for example then the season would last 7 weeks. (plus play offs if I include them)(For the sake of simplicity I will continue using a theoretical league of 4 players: A, B, C and D.)Each week consists of 5 questions about box office that must be predicted (via PM) by all players before a set deadline. If you beat your opponent for that week you score 3 points, if you lose you score 0 and if there is a tie both players score 1.Final league placings will be decided based on these points. So how does scoring work...

 

Well lets say that in week 1, A is against B and C is against D.

 

The questions are: (real questions will be more varied)

 

1) Predict the 3 day weekend for Avengers

2) Predict the 3 day weekend for Batman

3) Predict the 3 day weekend for Scooby Dooo

4) Predict the 3 day weekend for Megatron

5) Predict the 3 day weekend for Zombies vs Vampires 3: This time it's personal.

 

[*]Scoring higher than the opponent on any given question will score you 1 goal [*]Scoring higher than 80% on any given question will score you 1 goal [*]Scoring higher than 90% on any given question will score you 2 goals [*]Scoring higher than 95% on any given question will score you 3 goals

 

So lets pretend that A and B's answers looked like the following:

 

Q1: A - 74% B - 77%   (Final score for this question would be: A 0 - 1 B )

Q2: A - 85% B - 84%   (Final score for this question would be: A 2 - 1 B )

Q3: A - 97% B - 91%   (Final score for this question would be: A 4 - 2 B )

Q4: A - 0% B - 0%   (Final score for this question would be: A 0 - 0 B )

Q5: A - 93% B - 93%   (Final score for this question would be: A 2 - 2 B )

 

So therefore the final score between these 2 players (in goals) would be: A 8 - 6 B and so A is the winner and gets 3 points for the league.

 

If the final score between C and D finished 7 - 7 then the league after week one would look like the following:

The final table at the end of the season will have places decided through the following criteria:

 

[*]Points [*]Goal Difference [*]Goals Scored [*]Result Between Tied Players [*]Results Excluding Bottom placed player, then second bottom player and so on. [*]Whoever gives me the most likes during the season.

 

***NB: if a player does not predict for a week they automatically lose the round 5-0 to whoever their opponent is. If a player misses 3 rounds then they are removed from the league and all previous results deleted.***

This will be changed to:

 

NB: if a player does not predict for a week they will be awarded a score of 0.00% for every question. This allows the opponent to be eligible for all of the percentage bonuses for each question and is not punished for the misfortune of having a great week and not scoring as high as they deserved due to an opponent no show. 

If a player misses 3 rounds then they are removed from the league and all previous results deleted involving this player.

 

 

Play offs:

 

The top 2 players will qualify for the semi finals with the next 4 (3rd - 6th) making the quarters.

I'm going to Singapore on September 11th so maybe the weekend starting September 20th can be week 1 if the players are there.
