Anyone want to explain to me why Texas Chainsaw 3D and Friday the 13th were so frontloaded?

Texas Chainsaw 3D was pretty silly and it went against the story that we all know about Leatherface.  So the opening was decent but WOM very quickly kicked in.

F13th is all about the date.  In 2009, Friday the 13th fell on a Friday and the next day was Valentine's Day.  It's the perfect storm.  Massive OD and then a decent enough drop on Saturday as it's a good date movie.  After that it dropped like a rock.  There are only so many slasher horror fans.  Films like The Conjuring are much more the exception than they are the rule.
