not surprised at that Anchorman number. Had a feeling that movie was being overhyped

I have to admit, a little voice in my head warned me for overshooting that movie. I kept ignoring based on all the other positive signs going for it. We'll see what happens, though. There's just not any strong comparison point for a comedy sequel opening a full week before Christmas, on a Wednesday no less.

I still can't believe they spent $120m on that movie.

I can't believe any studio would greenlit such a budget but then again James L Brooks directed expensive comedies, As Good As it Gets cost $50m and Spanglish cost $80m so I guess the salaries alone for How Do You Know must have been $50-60m alone.

Well obviously the hype and superfans of the first movie failed to show up so I guess it's up to its own WOM to keep it up throughout the holidays.  But for people like me who haven't seen the original, it looks kind of bland and I think they marketed it too hard as a sequel to a movie that's 9 years old so it doesn't look that appealing to the general audience.

Didn't Shrek 2 under preform on it's opening day and then sky rocket on the weekend? Wait and see everybody!!

Yeah, but the genre difference could be part of that ... kids movie, weekend ... this is more young adult/teenagers.
