Well, you have to admit they pretty much beg for comparisons

Only because of an arbitrary release date though. If they were separated by a couple of years no-one would think twice about it. O'Russell isn't the first director to riff on Goodfellas/Casino and won't be the last.

That said, I'm sure Wolf is the better movie and look forward to seeing it when it's finally released in the UK next week.

WOLFIE! WOLFIE! Saw this again last night and loved it even more than the first time. It flows better on a second viewing. Can I just say that the lunch scene with MCConaughey is absolutely brilliant?! It's definitely one of my favorite scenes of the year, and sets up the film so well.

The highest fucks ever recorded in a hollywood movie ever and what a movie it is. Fuck the Academy folks, because I know now for sure they will not like this movie a bit. This film is about a world where wealth is created and lost in seconds in a life of intoxication and fellowship. Fuck I want Jordan as my boss now after seen this movie and I also wanna be his friend.

You want him to inform on you to save his ass?

Well I would be better than those fools who worked for him to see when trouble is my heading my way and create an escape route for myself. I mean they knew the man they were working for and why the hell didn't they see it coming and not get prepared for it. They were like waiting for some FBI agent to come and get like some school kids waiting outside the principals office. Or maybe they were really blinded by the guy somehow.

To be fair, he was blinded by himself too. The surprise is not how they were blindsided by it, it's how dumb all of them (including Belfort) were, in the end. Greed, man. Gives you tunnel vision.

The point of no return for him was when he had the chance to get out early by working with those guys from the something c and s, i don't really remember what they were actually called, but he had a chance to get out and midway through the fake farewell speach I could really see the greed and egotastical pride that was showing from Leo's face. Leo should really recieve an oscar for this perfomance.

It was a good movie. Overall, the drug use became kinda repetitive and seemed like it was there only to add more screentime. There were a few editing mistakes that were too obvious for me. Anyway, good movie.A-

That shot of her from the top of the bedroom with her round and perfect ass. DAMN it had me drooling for some time and making me rewind for several times. Thank god for screeners.

The movie is a masterpiece. I like all of Scorsese's 00s movies but this really is his best since Goodfellas. I guess many people will find it 20-30-45 minutes too long but I wouldn't cut a frame. Also I think the debate about whether it glorifies Belfort's lifestyle is bullshit. The movie lures you in but there's always reminders that everything we see is kind of sick. Like in the first office party the way the camera lingers over the woman who shaved her head for 10.000 $ is disturbing or even the already legendary Lemmons sequence who starts as Laugh out loud funny and halfway through turns isturbingly funny. And even if someone can somehow miss these little touches spread throughout the movie, the brilliant final shot hammers home the point of the movie. In the hands of someone else this material could be an easily digestable message that pats the audience on the back and says "shame on you wall street douchebags stealing from us little people" so everyone can go home happy and vindicated. But Scorsese is intersted in something more meaningfull than that. He tells us that those guys did what they did (and continue to do so) because we, the not-privileged and not-wealthy, we really wan't to be rich and do whatever we want without consequences, we want to be THAT guy. Our greed is the fuel of capitalism, we create these guys. We talk about a fair world and about be happy with what we 've got but at the same time we just so want to buy this pen.

Everyone is phenomenal in this movie but it's really Di Caprio's show, he is beyond amazing. The guy is beautiful, rich, super-talented and maybe the biggest movie star in the world. I hope he has a small dick because otherwise it's not fair.

That's a moment specifically mentioned by Thelma Schoonmaker as something that should really give a viewer pause, and it's also the first moment that's a flash of the real ugliness underneath the craziness. (The earlier moments are played for laughs, but that isn't).
