$100m off a $33m w/e - would be a 4 multiplier.  TWS with did another $70m off a $35m w/e O/S.

 

Just checked Italy & Japan numbers - TDW and TWS did about $16.5-17m in both combined.  I don't see GOTG doing almost 20% more than both when it hasn't done so in any previous market.  Japan is usually a different beast than other Asian markets (it could go crazy break out like Maleficent and do $60m) but GOTG has underperformed TDW and TWS significantly in the others.

 

I think Japan + Italy + Germany = $35m is the high end

 

China could be anywhere from $60m-100m

 

So my high end guess:

 

$35m + $75m + $100m = $210m more O/S for a $406m O/S total

 

Low end it could do $50m less for $356m O/S.  So if it does $290m dom it would pass TDW ww

I think $650m WW is a reasonable target for it which would be amazing.

I think that total is highly likely. Of course, if China is bigger than expected, it could reach $400M.

 

I think a safe bet would be $285M in NA and $385M outside NA, so WW = $670M.

GotG will pass the 3mil mark this week, it's only 100k away. Will be interesting to see how much it can make this weekend since Lucy is finally opening here so it will take some audience away but it's R16.

At the weekend it was on #8 of 2014 with $2,296,432 (release date was 7 August)

Venezuela:

Too short my friend. When Phase 1 began movies like Iron Man, Thor and Captain America where just a niche movies for a niche market. Iron Man 1 & 2 made $1,8m  and $1,9m respectively, The Incredible Hulk made $1,3m Thor 1 made $2,6 million. Cap 1 just made $1m but it would have made more if not for the Paramount distribution problem back in 2011.

 

The total of Phase 1 alone in Venezuela is $8,6 million. They where decent numbers but nothing to write home about.

 

And then in 2012 The Avengers came and destroyed the box office and superheroes (especially Marvel) became mainstream grossing $13,2 million, that is more than the entire Phase 1 combined.

 

In 2013 the currency was devaluated again but that did not stop Iron Man 3 to become a juggernaut making $12,6 million, then Thor 2 made $9,3m, then Cap 2 made $10,1m and now Guardians witch is a franchise that is not very well now up until now is going to blow past the $10 million mark as well.

 

If Phase 2 follows the same path as Phase 1 did here then you bet your money that Avengers: Age of Ultron will make over $30 million. Maleficent might not make it there but if there is any movie that can make it there, its Avengers 2.

 

 

South Korea had afterwards this post new releases, GotG is not in the top 10 anymore. I think $10m+ is still not bad considering the extreme situation the BO had there since GotG's release (Roaring currents), I guess without that movie it would have made something between $20m and $30m+
