TLK
Why is Into The Woods considered an awards contender ? Is this because of Meryl because nothing else about the project sounds like an Oscar movie ?
ddddeeee
If anything we should take Meryl's involvement as a sign it won't be very good. Well that and Rob Marshall directing.
The Stingray
Rob Marshall can fuck away off. Tell that to the Academy.
ddddeeee
Tell that to the Academy. They thankfully did with Nine.
Jake Gittes
on another website i was talking about my stupid early oscar predictions for 2014 and i said that big eyes was gonna win "the big five" so yeah, i hope it doesn't suck and make me look stupid. If there's one thing I know about next year's Oscars, it's that Waltz isn't gonna win his third Oscar in five years.
CoolioD1
duly noted. it's just that there's no obvious frontrunner a year in advanced this year in that category so right now i think anyone's possible.
mahnamahna
I think this could be Nolan's year... [*]Christopher Nolan (Interstellar) [*]Tim Burton (Big Eyes) [*]David Fincher (Gone Girl) [*]Paul Thomas Anderson (Inherent Vice) [*]Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) - if it's above 80% on RT, I'd give it the nom since they'll want a female nominee again
AniNate
Richard Linklater - Boyhood Terrence Malick - Voyage of Time Bennett Miller - Foxcatcher Christopher Nolan - Interstellar Jean-Marc Vallee - Wild
Jake Gittes
If Malick's new films are done in the style of To the Wonder, he won't be anywhere near this.
AniNate
Obviously. But I'm betting they aren't (or at least Voyage of Time isn't. Seems perfect for his style)
Jake Gittes
Voyage of Time is a documentary, no? His features are Knight of Cups and another as-yet-untitled one (formerly titled Lawless).
AniNate
I'm not sure if it would really qualify as a documentary. I don't think there's any actual "real-life" footage in it. Edited March 4, 2014 by tribefan695

ChD
I wouldn't be so sure on Ridley Scott just yet... Especially after that last abomination.
Jake Gittes
Yeah I see Fincher or Nolan nominated before Scott.

The Panda
My early guesses Angelina Jolie, Unbroken Bennet Miller, Foxcatcher David Fincher, Gone Girl Richard Linklater, Boyhood Ridley Scott, Exodus Edited March 10, 2014 by The Panda
Impact
As a note-don't expect a picture/director split again, as last year was the first time in 61 years there was a back to back P/D split. Now I know this wont happen-but imagine how ironic that be if Affleck wins director for a film not nominated for best picture. (Which has only happened once-the 2nd Oscars with The Divine Lady. Though technically it did happen during the 1st year as there was an award for comic director)
