Weekend Numbers (3/28 - 3/30) Noah 44M Divergent 26.5

Recommended Posts

I think it's cool that this year is going to shatter the pre-May $100 million movie record. I remember when we'd be lucky if two films made it to the century mark before summer. Then in 2009 there were five.

This year, we already have

Made It

Ride Along

The Lego Movie

300 2

Locks

Divergent

Mr Peabody

Captain America

Should make it

Noah

Rio 2

Outside shot (probably not, but not impossible)

Transcendence

Non-stop

I don't think we'll double the record with 10, but we should at least have 7, maybe 8, which is pretty amazing. I think we could see 40 $100 million films this year.

Just goes to show that 100m isn't what it used to be.... inflation breaks a lot of records :)

Cap 2 should hit 90M.

Not sure why everyone would be surprised if it does.

Because only Marvel movies starring Iron Man have been able to open anywhere near that number. Granted TWS is getting fantastic reviews, but that doesn't necessarily mean a huge opening. More like great legs.

Thor opened to 85M a few months ago?

I agree with you about how people need to stop talking about records being broken every year when a new blockbuster movie comes out.  A record is only broken by something new when the variables are the same.  Example: swimmers being timed in the same exact distance, with the same swimsuits, caps, etc. and indoor pools where there is no wind or anything.  These are new records.  Not when inflated ticket prices and many more screens exist now than a decade ago, or two decades, or 5 decades ago.

You need to check your math Chewy. My calculations say that 90M - 85M = 45M. That's nowhere near 90M you see.

Two things

1. I almost got in an argument with my pastor today when he endorsed God's Not Dead about how the best religious films are ones like Noah that actually attempt to appeal to those outside the faith.

2. On the way back from church, some idiot rear-ended my car and ran. My mom and I couldn't even get a picture, let alone a license plate. What an asshole; I've honestly never heard of someone being involved with a hit and run in real life. Whatever <_<  De

1.  God's Not Dead is a good, if over the top, film really aimed at Christians.  Noah is "good" depending on what one's preferences are, but I do hope that those outside the faith who see the movie are curious enough to read the actual biblical account.  If so, its a win-win.

2.  Yikes!  Are you guys okay?

Indeed!  :)

With 1, my argument on why people who are in the Christian faith should see it is basically that it's the rare occasion a biblical movie aimed to all audiences is released. Christians should go see it just to have a discussion point to share their beliefs if someone brings up the movie to them, rather than just going "Oh, that movie isn't accurate, I don't want to see it." That's why I wanted to argue with my pastor about it :)

2. Yeah, we're fine, we were just rear-ended, and our trunk is gone basically. My mom and I are totally okay though. They didn't get the guy though.

Escape Plan was only big OS because it combined Schwarzenegger and Stallone. Sabotage is looking at 30M WW with luck.

Last Stand did 48 million worldwide and Sabotage will gross 11-12 in the US like Last Stand did. Plus Last Stand western feel/tone hurt it in a lot of foreign countries. Sabotage serious gritty tone and violence will help sell it in Japan, China and other places in the middle east. I'll still be surprised if Sabotage doesn't do at least 50 million worldwide and it could easily do more then that. Sure it's not going to do what the Escape Plan did. But it's not going to do some small 18-19 million number either, that's just silly. Arnold is still a bigger star in many foreign countries then current A-list stars in Hollywood are.
