The Disney Thread | Happy 90th to Donald Duck!

Lone Ranger shouldn't have been greenlit with a $200m+ budget, even Disney trying to reduce it and it still went overbudget. I think it should have been $150m maximum. Given the success of comedies, horror and animated films that cost less than $100m, I do think overspending in Hollywood needs to be curbed.

It's a Western. Look at Fox. They know they want to do another DIE HARD sequel but they know audience is moving on. So they green light it for less than $100M. The movie is still profitable if it made less than $300M WW. Unlike Disney who went over their heads greenlighting a $200M Western who didn't even appeal to American audience.

BURBANK, Calif. - December 16, 2013 - On Saturday, December 14, The Walt Disney Studios reached a new all-time high at the domestic box office, breaking the company's previous record of $1.547 billion set in 2012. The accomplishment makes 2013 a landmark year for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, which has already surpassed all previous years at both the international and global box office.

"We had an incredible collection of films in 2013 and our teams here and around the world worked very hard to bring these wonderful experiences to audiences," said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. "As a result we are having a banner year at the domestic, international, and global box office, and we are very proud of this tremendous accomplishment and the people who made it possible."

Great year. Frozen could add another 150+ to the total when its done.

Can't wait for 2015. AoU and SW7 together could be 1B+. Then there's two Pixar movies which could add another 500M. I can see Cinderella doing Oz like numbers. These 5 alone could put it on top of 2013. But they have Tommorowland, Ant Man, and Jungle Book!

Disney now has a deal to release any future 'Indiana Jones' films.

We own everything. - Disney

lol

Yea, but Indiana Jones franchise is practically grinding to a halt. Ford is pushing 70. How long before he says enough.

I see Ford having a grand time playing villainous character in movies like PARANOIA. He should try these more dramatically

challenging roles instead of doing something that should have been passed to a younger guy 10 years ago.

Again, it is also  impossible: Ford is Indiana Jones. No substitute.

For Disney, 200m is practically low budget.Too bad this movie didn't cost 200m.
